well I guess the obvious answer is we can't afford what he was asking for. If money is tight they may have felt what we do have is better spent on other areas? We did table an offer for Smith to re-sign and he chose Wigan. Williams, Gibson and Ford have all been given new contracts - so maybe they are just picking who they can afford & who fits in? I guess that Long signing on as a player means we are not searching for any new half backs right now... Sneyd + DJ with Long as cover for injury / loss of form?

I was too polite to say it, but yes! It is a good point. If he is unhappy / not getting on with coaches or players etc ... we do have a few more options at centre than 6 or 7?

In fairness to the lad I don't think a comment like "I've come here for an extra twenty-five grand a season" would have endeared him to the rovers faithful.

Remember the Feka comment when he signed for us two years ago? " We will definately make the playoffs" When the reality was . . Wigan didn't want me anymore so I've come here.

Yes, but you use the "I want to win trophies" speech when you move to a club that has offered you more money and is likely to win trophies. When you move to a club that has offered you more money and is another one of the also-rans, you use the "I spoke to the management there and was very impressed. They're an ambitious club and I want to be a part of it" speech.

I'm pretty sure it's a Rugby League by-law.
