International Rugby League madness : Thu Aug 23, 2018 7:11 pm
Australia are due to play the new International powerhouse Tonga at the end of the season, however there are doubts the game will go ahead.

The main problem, the Australian players need to be paid $20,000 each in match payments, this compares with $5000 England and New Zealand receive, with other countries players getting next to nothing.

The last test match Australia played against the Kiwis lost money because of the match payments.

Why on earth do the Australian players need to be paid so much more than anyone else. If games don’t go ahead, because they lose money, due to the massive match payments, it will seriously hold the International game back.

Re: International Rugby League madness : Thu Aug 23, 2018 9:20 pm
They want the extra money to make it worth their while turning up. Internationals are way down the priority list in Australian RL, from both players and fans. See the stadium not being sold out to watch their own team play in the World Cup Final, and then the majority of the crowd who did go leaving before they had lifted the trophy as the clearest example you'll ever get. They aren't interested.

I wish everyone would read bramleyrhino's post two or three times just to get it through some thick skulls

Mr bramleyrhino speaks a lot of sense.

Because they've got an effective players union. Something that our players managed to make a compete pigs-ear of.

It’s not effective if it stops international matches taking place

It's effective at looking after the interests of players, which is what a players union exists to do.

Meanwhile in Blighty, our players are still being flogged by club owners who aren't investing in club growth and at the same time, have experienced real-terms pay cuts since 1999.

JESUS WEPT :WALL: HOW MANY TIMES?????
£20 a ticket and £15 on beer and merchandise.....so an away fan is worth £35. At best, 1,000 is the average away support split across 11 rounds and I am being really generous here, so Toronto, replacing say Wakefield will cost a SL club £35,000.
The minimum turnover of a SL club is £4,000,000 so Toronto instead of Widnes is worth less than 1% of a SL clubs turnover.

There are many valid reasons for and against expansion into America, but "AWAY FANS" isn't one of them. :BEAT:

It's all about money motivation, not national pride and giving something back to the sport that made you....so typical...

Oh yeah because 5 grand and representing your country isn't enough, right?

Are these the 'Aussies' who were born in Tonga, signed youth forms for NRL clubs to obtain Ocker nationality, won a cap for Oz or played the odd State of Origin before being discarded by the Aussie representative sides for younger Tongans? Rinse and repeat.
