That said, this was a poll that I struggled with anyway. My heart would obviously err towards a vote for Fax, but the truth is that we're not ready for SL. As such I'd probably like to see the back of any two of Toronto, Toulouse or London, just because the experience of playing Leigh or Fev is so much better with fans from both teams making some noise supporting their team. In terms of changing places, HKR create a good vibe, and Widnes used to but seem to be dropping off now with their support? Huddersfield have a local flavour, but Catalans would just be another Toulouse in disguise.
JESUS WEPT HOW MANY TIMES????? £20 a ticket and £15 on beer and merchandise.....so an away fan is worth £35. At best, 1,000 is the average away support split across 11 rounds and I am being really generous here, so Toronto, replacing say Wakefield will cost a SL club £35,000. The minimum turnover of a SL club is £4,000,000 so Toronto instead of Widnes is worth less than 1% of a SL clubs turnover.
There are many valid reasons for and against expansion into America, but "AWAY FANS" isn't one of them.
so based on a hundred or sow visiting fans, you'd prefer to see the top tier as expansionist and the 2nd tier retreat to the heartlands?
Your numbers are a little out. Fax took 400-500 to Leigh, and the corresponding reverse fixture would see more than that at the Shay. Not massive numbers, but enough to create a good "vibe" for the game.
My point was purely selfish. I want a good game day experience, and supporting my own team means that the likes of Leigh, Fev, Widnes, HKR and Huddersfield visiting is far more attractive than Toronto, Toulouse or London.
Nothing to do with what's best for the game as a whole, just my own selfish view on how I'd like to spend a Sunday afternoon!
Toronto and Toulouse would certainly rejuvenate and light up Super league, in place of Salford and KR would improve the league no end.
Tolouse vs Catalans is a mouth watering prospect to all rugby league fans.
As a diagnosis as to why we've gone backwards at an alarming rate over the last couple of decades, that's pretty accurate......I empathise with your desire but have to wholeheartedly disagree with it. I was gutted when London went down and will never forgive the architects of that demise, Hughes and MacKay, but the reality is both SL and the Championship are better for it, because we are competitive in the 2nd tier and not getting tonked week in week out in SL.....So if I was votig in the faux french trolls poll i'd say Toronto and Leigh because they are the only 2 with the resources to stand a chance of staying their...Toulouse are 5 years away from Ready......
Why stop at Toronto and Toulouse? Timbuktu, Abu Dhabi, the moon?
The moon seems to be where you get your ideas and inspiration from.
You are so pathetically an insular flat capper. Toronto and Toulouse have teams and fans. Toronto already have a better business setup and many more fans than woeful Wakefield.
Toronto and Toulouse will bring more corporate money, new fans, TV coverage, and credibility into the game than woeful Wakefield -- or for that matter witless Widnes or silly Salford..
Tried to vote for Leigh and fev but no joy. My reasons are because I'm go pro m62 and hate expansion.
Well, not quite. Would love to see Cas Fev derby in super league, I reckon fev would hold their own at POR. Also, I think Leigh would be well equipped to super league second time round. They weren't a disaster first time, but I'm sure they'd improve their recruitment. Fev have also made massive marketing progress and have better facilities than a fair few in SL (so do Leigh to be fair).
This is just my opinion of preference, i'd don't wish the other 4 harm at all.
