Wonder how long it takes for Newcastle fans to travel down to Southampton and back.

A long time, assuming they are travelling from Newcastle.

I assume you trying to say if some Newcastle fans are willing to travel to Southampton then RL fans have no excuse not going from say, Hull to Widnes.

Well some clearly are willing to travel but it's just a question of numbers. Comparisons with Premier League football clubs like Newcastle are pointless.
As an example there are way more Newcastle fans than Hull FC fans. Newcastle get what, 50,000, every week? Hull get 11,000.
I don't know if it's possible to find away fan numbers anywhere but it would be interesting to see if there were more than 5 times as many Newcastle fans at Southampton as there were Hull fans at Widnes.

Club coaches left the stadium at 15:30, that discounted anyone who works regular office hours unless they take annual leave. Now considering this game was meant to be a home fixture for us until a month ago, I think taking 300 across that b*stard M62 on a Thursday evening is pretty good considering they only took 60 at best to Hull KR last Saturday. My lad went as he managed to get a flyer from work and that's with us living in Cas too. I'm not getting into an away fan travel p*ssing contest, but this is the 4th time in 3 seasons we've had to travel over there on a Thursday night which is diabolical.

Thursday games must be difficult for most fans to travel, particularly across the M62 with all its road works and diversions. If they want to insist on Thursday games make them derbies, that shouldn't be too difficult for the fixture people.

I actually thought Hulls following last night was excellent considering the above.

The attendances are alarming right now. Thursday night games don't help, but they're not the sole reason. Put the game on a sunday and let's say a 1000 more fans turn up...its still not reaching 5k.

Good idea then we would finally get to a grand final and wouldn't have to put up with idiots from outside of East Yorkshire :thumb:

There are probably more newcastle fans in southampton than the sum of all SL travelling fans in this round of games

The referee's indecision is final

it shouldn't be all about the away fans though should it? clubs have to work harder to grow their own fan bases. just because 3500 turn up to a game it can hardly be pinned on poor travelling support, whatever the circumstances. smart clubs should budget for home attendances and view any away fans that turn up as a financial bonus

No it shouldn't. All im pointing out to people complaining about distances is that they've got easy to football fans. What are they going to do should London/Toulouse/Cumbria united get into SL?
