nternational rugby league is heading across the Atlantic.

ZEALOTRL.COM has learned that both England and New Zealand have reached an agreement to play a mid-season international in Denver this June.

It had been reported that some NRL clubs were hesitant to release their key players from both nations for the game, which will be held in Colorado as part of a bid from promoter Jason Moore.

That could still happen – but what is certain is that the game will take place, with New Zealand now signing the relevant paperwork to confirm their participation in the match, an announcement is imminent from the promoters that they have secured the game.

It will take place in the designated mid-season international window, when no Super League or NRL games are due to be played.

Let's hope they get the best players released from the NRL

£20 a ticket and £15 on beer and merchandise.....so an away fan is worth £35. At best, 1,000 is the average away support split across 11 rounds and I am being really generous here, so Toronto, replacing say Wakefield will cost a SL club £35,000.
The minimum turnover of a SL club is £4,000,000 so Toronto instead of Widnes is worth less than 1% of a SL clubs turnover.

There are many valid reasons for and against expansion into America, but "AWAY FANS" isn't one of them. :BEAT:

it would seem logical, but maybe the kiwis wanted to meet halfway, toronto and ny is a shorter flight in our favour, add another 3 hours on for denver and its still a good 8 hours less than travelling from auckland

I am intrigued by the idea that we are going to play a one-off game at over 5000 feet.

From what I can gather, it's more to do with there already being a Rugby Union infrastructure/investors already present in Colorado & this is an attempt to tap into it ahead of the World Cup, rather than a decision based on geography.

I understand why people would expect a game in Toronto or NYC to try and help promote the sides there, but this is a bit more long-term thinking and as with Magic Weekend now, it's a money spinner, rather than a tool to help expansion sides.

It is just a joke really, no wonder the NRL won't release players, Denver is in the middle of nowhere, why not reward Toronto for the hard work they are putting in.

I hope St. Helens don't allow players to go, might sound strange but this is a real waste of time in my opinion.

It not being in Toronto isn’t a defence for the NRL not wanting to release players. They’re not trying to block it because they don’t agree with the choice city but more because they’re an insular bunch of arrogant to*sers.

I’d see more sense in it being in Toronto but ultimately I don’t really care. It’s another international fixture to try and build the sport. It should be the pinnacle of the game the international scene and I’ll be more then happy to see numerous Wigan players selected (an added bonus being that will probably mean we’re going well in the league).

It being in Toronto would have given more credence to the match the NRL know it is a waste of time and I don't blame them.
