The fans, the members, the people there.. from the day I stepped foot onto that field at the AJ Bell Stadium,I knew I would love that club for the rest of my life. "Jackson Hastings"..

Do you honesty think other sporting bodies ring up the BBC to tell them who has died this year to include them in this segment? There was a few RL names, do you think someone from the RFL rang up and named them and forget one?

This is a BBC event, built up for several months, a key traditional part of the show. If they're relying on different sporting bodies to inform them of who has died in the last 12 months then it says a lot more about them than ranting at the RFL.

The RFL deserve criticism at times no doubt, god knows how they get stuck for this though.

As soon as you provide me with evidence they didn't inform the BBC before you went on your premature dummy spit?

Why do you think the RFL is responsible for the material of a BBC awards show? It clearly isn't and that's probably dawning on you now as I point it out but I'd hazard a guess you'll stubbornly sticks to your guns.

No you wanted to have a rant at the RFL before it was pointed out to you a BBC awards show isn't their responsibility, now you're backtracking.

If you felt so strongly about him being remembered you'd have contacted the BBC a few months ago and not just left it to hope they do it and then complain afterwards.

You're happy to e-mail them afterwards within minutes....did you bother to e-mail beforehand in the FOUR months since his death? No didn't think so, so couldn't have meant that much.

£20 a ticket and £15 on beer and merchandise.....so an away fan is worth £35. At best, 1,000 is the average away support split across 11 rounds and I am being really generous here, so Toronto, replacing say Wakefield will cost a SL club £35,000.
The minimum turnover of a SL club is £4,000,000 so Toronto instead of Widnes is worth less than 1% of a SL clubs turnover.

There are many valid reasons for and against expansion into America, but "AWAY FANS" isn't one of them. :BEAT:

Christ on a Bike....another BBC bashing thread......

Here's another snippet for you then.....in 2013, the Big Bash RLWC Semi-final on Saturday afternoon featuring England got fewer viewers than a meaningless Union international on BBC2 the following day featuring Ireland v New Zealand......
.......Last time an England side made a Rugby World Cup final in either code, played in Australia, 14 million people tuned in early in the morning to watch.......how many bothered earlier this month?

The BBC don't have to show International RL, but they do. They also show Club RL during the later stages of the Challenge Cup. The BBC website has plenty of information and highlights and the SL show is available on-line and on demand.

Rugby League was watched by 2.3 million spectators in Britain in 2017 (see other thread) out of a total of 75 million attendees at sports events across the country...so 3% of ticket sales were for League.......and you're dummy spitting because in your opinion the BBC don't pay us enough attention? Seems pretty "needy" to me...

You going on about Rugby Union AGAIN???

We get it we might not be as big as RU, but certainly better than speed skating, swimming or taekwondo.

Accept that there isn't just two sports in the world in RL and RU and basing all your arguments around that.

OK......a world Champion and multiple Olympian was voted the nations #1 SPOTY.......The top 10 attended sports events in the UK in 2017 included 6 featuring horses, 2 featuring Tennis, motor racing and Golf.........soccer football accounts for over 60% of all sporting ticket sales in the UK and probably more in terms of TV viewership and a sport that is played at the top level in 1 region of the country, watched by 9,000 folk on average and that can't fill the national stadium for a double header featuring the worlds 4 best sides doesn't get front page coverage and you go all "needy" on the BBC.
Swimming, speed skating and Taekwando are pretty small scale......but I suspect that more people tuned into BBC Olympic coverage of those sports than bothered with the RLWC Final and even if they didn't, they don't warrant and don't receive as much cross channel coverage as we do in RL......., Wakefield v Castleford features 2 towns that most folk outside of yorkshire couldn't find on a map, people will watch Olympic sport like Swimming, speed skating and Taekwando ......and that's not the BBC's fault!
As for Union.....it's a valid point. In 1992, 74,000 people were at Wembley watching GB v Aussie....a week earlier England Union got fewer fans at the same Stadium.......we've regressed and they'be progressed.....Castleford v Wakefield won't grow our sport, but England v Someone else regularly will.......and it's not the BBC's job to make that happen!

Given that 2017 isn't an Olympic year I bet they didn't.

But as someone who consistently goes on as a marketing expert how can you not look at the numbers Sinfield did in 2015 and this years numbers and say more can't be done with RL with the BBC. And given you don't live in the U.K then maybe trust people who do who will tell you it's poor. Not expecting it to match RU (despite your hard on for it) but definitely can and should be better.

I am not an expert, but I do make a pretty good living in sports marketing......HTH.

Jilted John made #1 back in the day.....but the album didn't sell as well......and it's not the BBC's job to promote a minority sport just because fans of said minority sport think it THE GREATEST GAME....

I lived in the UK for over 20 years, still own a few properties there and I am fully aware that a sport that is on a par in terms of spectators with Greyhound racing has no place "demanding" more coverage from the national broadcaster.....the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup final was better attended than all but 3 of the recent RLWC games .....I am sure they don't feel as neglected as pit village rugby....but maybe that's because it's another "establishment" sport.

I live in New Zealand.....the #2 ranked RL Nation on the planet and I can see firsT hand that whilst Football, Formula 1, Cricket, Union, Tennis, Golf Athletics and Cycling are deserving of their "landing page status" on the BBC global site, a sport who has an international game where 75% of the players are all born in 3 countries doesn't.......in fact, 2 Aussie states, 1 Kiwi City and 2 Northern English Counties....

As for my hard on for Union......for all the talk of slow cumbersome fatties, endless scrum resets, kicking for touch, kicking for goal and being boring, it's streets ahead of League off the park and it's "off the park" that your thread is about and it's off the park that dictates that League isn't deserving of better BBC coverage.

....and it's not just the BBC now. The 6 Nations is worth 50 million a year to ITV and the BBC.......or are you now going to demand that ITV should cover RL as well..........Commercially we punch below darts in terms of viewers and BT were not in the mix last time out......a "garage TV station" had rights to all the RLWC games for the last 2 events and the BBC relegated us to their 2nd channel.......as a "Marketing Expert", I'd say that points to those i the media industry knowing exactly how much exposure we deserve and passionate fans not having a friggin' clue!

They clearly didn't given the difference in numbers so that's you're first argument knocked away.

I can only imagine how much better the people who pay you would do if they hired someone half decent.

Reduced to mentioning a song from over 40 years ago to downplay an argument about sport in 2017....Jesus you are stealing a living judging by your previous comment.

No one has "demanded" more coverage but has simply pointed out the backing the fan base CAN give. It's not the BBC's responsibility but if they can't look at those numbers a RL player pulled in compared to other sports and not think they need to do better then they're as bad at their job as you. As a marketing expert would you ignore those numbers a RL player pulled in....yes or no?
