The world cup is 3 months away, it would have to be a shattered rib to keep him out of the world cup. It will mean he's fresh for the world cup, and is probably a blessing.

It now turns out that the fears of a broken rib were misplaced. It is only rib cartilage damage. He will be back playing long before the World Cup. http://www.nrl.com/sam-burgess-injury-u ... fault.aspx

Long as we don't lose both Burgess and Tomkins, or else we'd have nobody else to promote England RL with!

Correct. Souths unlikely to make the play offs either so all 3 Burgess brothers will likely have a bit of down time before WC begins. Infact, a very good chance most of our NRL based international players will be sitting out the business end of the year.

That's not ideal preparation. At least we have 1 friendly game before the opener against Australia.

Correct. Souths (3 players), Canberra (2 players), Canterbury (1 player) and Newcastle (1 player) won't make the playoffs. Gold Coast (2 players) are an outside chance. Only St George Illawarra (1 player) looks likely to be in the playoffs.

Gareth Widdop is likely to be playing in the beginning of the playoffs, but won't be in the final four, who play September 22-23, and nor in the Grand Final October 1st. Widdop is in career best form, and yesterday starred in St. George-Illawarra's thumping of Manly. Hopefully he can maintain his form for the friendly during the long layover before the World Cup begins.
