I don't think they had sold 3K season tickets a few months ago, I remember there being some confusion around this but I think 3000 people had registered their interest for a season ticket, not actually bought one.
Haggerty only 27, I doubt he will be putting his boots up just yet.
Just another sneaky way of player recruitment without paying a transfer fee by Mr "morals and ethics" Rowley
There are levels of shade regarding player recruitment ...
& then there is Toronto.
*hope for the good of the game that it takes off big time over there & for the kleenex sales boost John Flatcap Dewsbury will bring* but by 6od, their recruitment strategies & techniques are questionable.

I hope they do well.
Correct,it wasn't actually registering for an interest in a season ticket. It was registering to be placed on their mailing list with an outlook to being given priority to a season ticket should you register.
21 games where they need to pay flights (£500 each for arguments sake) plus hotels (£100 each) for say 22 players and staff. That equals approx. £270k. Plus other costs lets say they need to make between £300k - £400k per season on top of player costs, ground costs, insurance etc
If they have the sponsors they say they have plus their share of the RFL money and if that covers their normal costs then they would need to sell about 1,300 season tickets (at $300 each) to break even.
As they get around 7,000 for international matches it might be doable.
I know the maths will be nowhere near accurate but give a flavour of what they will need to do. Plus they don't have the flat caps and whippets stereotype of RL over there so will find it much easier to get some decent sponsorship.
I hope it works as it will give us a real platform for the international game.
I know you said rough estimate but your figures are well out, Flights circa £300 if booking just as an individual, hotel rooms at £33/night based on two nights stay within 1/2 mile of the stadium so even staying two nights is less than your £100. that's prices available booking as an individual/couple within 3-4 minutes not at bulk/business rates. More likely in the £150-£175k range but I would expect them to offset some of those costs anyway.
Listening to the interview earlier in the season this has more than a good feel to it and sounds more on a par with a SL team in terms of interest/organisation. I'd be very interested in making the trip to the first home game, they even do a $99/£61 away supporters pack that includes a shirt, scarf, inaugural match book and one presumes match ticket.
I don't get why Leigh fans get so peed off with Toronto would any of the players who left be playing for them in SL next season anyway
For some Leigh fans it's a double whammy of bitterness; firstly that they've got Paul Rowley and a load of other ex-Leigh players (some of which as you say, they wouldn't want for SL anyway); secondly, they fear that a club could come from nowhere and we bigger than them in a very short space of time.
There's a thread on their board too that has gone the way of the bitter few. Some are genuinely interested in Toronto, others are criticising the venture before it's even played a game.

Although there is some sympathy with the "knockers" of this project, after all we have seen some failures with "expansion" clubs, since the inception of SL. However, if a consortium of businessmen are willing to stump up a substantial amount of funding to get this thing rolling and are serious in trying to get a foothold for our sport in Canada, they should be welcomed with open arms.
The venture may fall flat on its backside but, if it does half of the things that these people are trying to achieve, I dont understand why people will not embrace the venture.
The potential for exposure, sponsorship, additional TV revenues is huge and to help get another nation to include RL as a professional sport should be encouraged and commended.
Of course, there does and will need to be serious thought and planning to ensure the thing works properly but, we should all be getting behind this sort of thing.

Unfortunately, you'll always get some fans that want to see it fail, partly out of jealousy, partly out of bitterness with the RFL. I for one hope they're a fantastic success. RL is quite similar to Americal Football, but played at a faster speed with greater intensity - should easily capture the imagination of Americans and Canadians...
