2016 season attendances (club by club) : Wed Sep 28, 2016 6:12 pm
Attendances down slightly by 1.86%.

It should increase next season if Sky bin the Thursday night game.

People seem to be looking back on Sky's Saturday-tea-time broadcast with rose-tinted glasses. I seem to recall poor TV audiences and indifferent attendances; first half of the season football dominates (awful for those of us who like to watch with a pint) and thereafter people find themselves barbecueing and the like.

Some fairly interesting figures there.

Firstly, well done to Catalan, strengthening their fan base which was already well established.

Wakefield made the biggest improvement but started from a shocking base line for SL.

Interesting that both Salford & Wakefield feature more than any other Club as the away team for season low attendances at clubs they visited.

Cas & KR prove themselves to have solid support despite a lack of trophy success.

I don't think that this very minor drop in season average attendances is of major concern as it is still higher than 2013/14 seasons.

Looking from the outside in it is abundantly clear that the vast majority of Clubs & the RFL itself are woefully lacking in the media & promotions department, I would wager that the RL spend on marketing is a tenth - ish of that in RU.

I think that marketing/media/promotions is vastly, horribly, disgracefully under-used and under-resourced in the RFL but mostly in the clubs. I think RL clubs marketing efforts range from approaching adequate to virtually non-existent. Sadly too many RL clubs versions of marketing comprises:
- a couple of players sent to a handful of amateur clubs (often the same ones) each year
- a few uninspiring emails sent to existing fans
- a generally poor social media effort
- a sign outside the ground

Most clubs are very poorly represented and have low profiles even in their own local areas.

Now, partly, I think every area of the game in British RL is under-resourced due to the very poor levels of revenue. But the only way to improve those revenues is to prioritise areas such as marketing, engagement and participation.
