Re: York : Fri Jul 22, 2016 8:51 pm
I'm really not following why some Wakefield fans on here are getting so wound up. I see nothing but concern for the current plight of York but certain Wakefield followers are getting upset at those showing concern. Is there rivalry between York and Wakefield which I never knew existed? Or are they annoyed at the RFLs perceived lack of support when Wakefield have been through some tough times?

I'd genuinely like to know - and no need to turn this into a Wakefield vs Castleford thread, this is about York. For the record I live just outside York and have attended more York games this season due to Castleford rarely playing on a Sunday.

I guess from my point of view having seen my club nearly go under and through one administration without any help from the RFL or the local council that I don't like to see the same thing happen to other clubs, especially those in the lower leagues where people above wouldn't give a damn.

Well, having browsed the reaction on social media this afternoon, I for one am glad that a few voices of sanity remain. I am simply staggered by how many people are trying to somehow link this, however tenuously, to Toulouse and Toronto. It is not even remotely connected to them in any way. The RFL are doing everything they can to find a way to keep York afloat, far more than most sporting governing bodies would do - but some people will never be happy. I just despair.

As Wakefield fan who's commented, I'm not seeing what you're seeing at all, Wakey v York rivalry where do get that from, the wound up thing is down to it being on VT ;). It seems some Wakefield fans feel that the RFL should/could do more maybe. I think the issue resonates with Wakey fans more, is down to the stadium issues/Council being unhelpful and the promised Community Stadium that's gone on for that long, it's been the man reason that York are no more.

By the way there's a topic on this on the Wakey forum if your confused why some Wakey fans are upset about potentially losing a RL club.

These people are never wrong - they are like the "EU remain" people who want referendum after referendum until they finally brow beat people into seeing it their way. On here it's just endless debates with millions of sub quotes taken out of context and treated to spurious facts and conjecture. Then if all else fails they will name call, not heat of the moment stuff like bell end but real cutting stuff (in their eyes) like ludite or worse northerner. In the end you have to make your point and walk away and live a life these people clearly don't have because as I say they are never wrong and they never ever get bored of telling you so.

Re: York : Sat Jul 23, 2016 6:52 pm
Wow, some wild unfounded outrage on this thread...

York have folded because of their poisonous, greed fuelled owner. He went into training on Thursday night and told everyone they were suddenly free agents. The RFL stepped in straight away - before the former owner even left the room, nearly with a black eye - to calm everyone down and tell everyone what was going to happen next.

The RFL have been absolutely fantastic too, and continue to be so. They are in the process of setting up a newco in order for the new club to see out the season. Head Coach James Ford and the vast majority of his squad are signing for the new club. The only shame is that they cannot be promoted this year.

This will allow any interested parties - and there's a few - to build a strong, minimum 3yr business plan knowing exactly what league they're going to be in next year to start. The RFL will then hand over the club to the strongest bidder, and everyone is happy!

City of York council, while far from perfect, have done nothing wrong here. The former owner engineered the situation to try and make him out to be the victim, like he always has. Thankfully everyone has now seen his true colours.

Good to hear and I hope it all comes good for York in the end. Shame about all the efforts of the players this season & not getting their chance at promotion. I thought there must been a way that York can finish the season off with a bit of help. I know that a few York fans think getting rid of the owner might be the best thing to happen to York.
