Headingley (arguably) may be a great venue when Leeds are at home, but last year proved that it’s location makes it totally unsuitable for two sizable away followings visiting at the same time.

Come again? Whenver they stage a game, there are two sets of fans. The biggest games of all used to be Leeds Bradford. That was a big number of away fans and an even bigger number of home fans.

They handled those for the last few decades so how on earth is it unsuitable for two much smaller fan contingents?

Rugby League still has a lot of work to do in getting fans to turn out for cup and playoff games. Our crowd this weekend was the best attendenance of the weekend, however it was stil 1,700 down on the crowd we got for Catalan in the league a couple of months back, despite both us and Catalan being in top form, the game being an 'all or nothing' one and cheaper tickets on offer. Yes this game being on TV is a big reason, but it's not the only factor, as teams across the league struggle to get the crowds in when it's 'pay on the day'

As for the choice of the Keepmoat, last time Hull got to the Semi's just 10,621 turned up at Huddersfield to see us play Warrington, so that crowd would have fitted in the Keepmoat with about 4K seats to spare. I am a passionate RL fan who wants the game to grow, but at the same time we have to realistic.

There's no room for sensible, reasoned post's on the VT, you must be in the wrong place

What an ridiculous thing to say. Its the game which attracts people, not the venue. If you choose too small a venue then those who may attend are being denied that opportunity.

Its really not that difficult to understand.

There have been only 2 semi finals in the last 10 seasons where the attendance exceeded that of the capacity of the Keepmoat stadium.

St Helens v Leeds in 2010
Leeds v St Helens in 2008

It is very unlikely the game will be sold out. No one is being denied an opportunity to see anything. All that is being restricted is the number of empty seats seen on TV.

Has a double header ever been considered maybe at one of the bigger grounds?

Yep. Now personally I'd play them as a double header at a decent stadium and try and turn it into an event like the Magic Weekend. It would also get us around 4 hours worth of coverage live on BBC on either a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

Sadly I'd say the prospect of crowd trouble would prevent a double header for the CC Semi Finals.

I agree, but the timing of the Magic weekend means that defeat can be avenged later in the season. Unfortunately recent history has shown that CC games can be 'problematic'.

I understand that Thelonius may be on his jolly 'olidays so I will try to help and "come again" on his behalf.

You do realise that a crowd of say 16,000 with 8,000 travelling from both sides of the country puts a different 'logistics' pressure on the a location, than say 13,000 locals, or if you prefer regular attendees and a further 3,000 from next door? Fortunately, (apart from the result and performance) I went by train to last year's semi final, but, I understand that it wasn't easy by those that travelled by coach in terms of drop off and pick up.

Headingly doesn't have that great a link to the motorway on match day in my experience, so much so that rightly or wrongly but mainly because I'm impatient I drove back through Bradford after this year's league opener v Leeds.
