Odd, all gone a bit wonky for young Joe down under. I think his head was turned too early in his career, I'm sure he'll be back out there for another crack in 5 years time.

I don't think that was the case. He was and is good enough to play in the NRL, he just chose the wrong club at the time. If that was his only option it's perhaps understandable, but I said at the time on here that it wouldn't work for him as they just had better players than him in their squad already. There are plenty of NRL clubs that don't and he should have looked for a more suitable club.

The Roosters chased him. It was after the February 2014 WCC between Wigan and the Roosters in which Joshua Charnley played abominably (e.g. refusing to tackle Michael Jennings, who scored) and in which Joseph Burgess played well.

Manfredi is a better finisher, defender, stronger running and better under the high ball IMO but Burgess has unbelievable pace, he'll beat literally any man on the outside given an inch.

They're both fabulous young wingers so we can't be anything but chuffed he's coming back.

The biggest strength I can see which Burgess has is his ability to keep a cool head in space. He is lightning quick but then when he gets in to a two on one situation with a full back, he calms his brain down and has the skill to execute the inside pass to put others in for trys. His assist tally last season was fantastic for a winger.

Agree, probably the wrong club for him to have excelled. He does have a few regular errors in his game which you can get away with in SL, but generally it won't cut it in the NRL, particularly not as a young import. Both him and Eden (who then doesn't have the same upside as Burgess) have made basic errors in the opportunities they've been given at their respective clubs - which is why neither have cemented a place and have been straight back out of the team at the earliest opportunity.

The Roosters was an odd choice for Burgess though, regardless of whether they said they wanted him or not. British players looking to move should do make sure they do some research IMO.

From what I saw Burgess has the raw ability to make it (unlike Eden) - as the saying goes you can't coach pace. If he was an Aussie the flaws in his game would already have been ironed out previously.
