Hull kr Cas Wakie and Widnes : Sun May 01, 2016 7:54 am
I think these 4 teams will be competing in the middle 8's. Leeds and Hudds have both had shocking starts to the season, but have shown some form and their superior class to Hull kr, Cas, Wakie and Widnes in recent weeks. It's a big ask and will be a tense finish but I think leeds, Hudds and Salford will all win at least 3 games more than the other clubs to get into the super8's. It's quite exciting at the bottom of the league.

It's certainly interesting.
I think, individually, all the teams on 6 points are capable of still making the 8. However, I don't think they all will. Remember that they still have to play each other so if they take points off each other equally, they will all still struggle. Leeds and Wigan also have to play top 4 teams at Magic.

You say Leeds, Salford and Giants have shown superior class?
Based on what exactly?
Have you seen any of these 4 play?

For one thing Wakefield beat Salford "in recent weeks"

Also I think you'll find Cas have an equally debilitating injury list as either Leeds or Hudds but have simply got on with it. When Roberts comes back they will be fighting at the top. I'd back them to beat Leeds (again)

With 10 games left Leeds would have to win at least 7 to have a chance of top 8.

And as the next 4 games are Cas Wigan Warrington and Catalan we'll find out pretty soon.

I think you’re been a bit disingenuous to Cas putting them in the frame for bottom four.

Like Leeds they’ve had a similar run of injuries to key players yet they’re still three wins better off.

The other three, more than likely.

The problem at Cas doesn't seem to be getting better though. Roberts was meant to be back over Easter, but it didn't happen and there seems to be no time-frame on his injury now. Ollie Holmes is a similar case - injured for ages, back against Wigan and now out for an unspecified time. Added to Shenton who won't be seen again this season we are clearly at risk of dropping into the bottom 8.
We also have Warrington at Magic.
Given our injuries and awful recruitment this year, I'd be delighted if we finished 8th.

With only 9 games to go before the split, you believe whatever you want to believe.
KR do look to be struggling but, to suggest that Leeds and Huddersfield are showing form is nonsense.

You are 6 points from the top 8 with 9 games to go.

Cas and Widnes need to find some form but, Salford look capable of moving up the league.

To make the 8, you have to win 3 more games than Wakefield, Widnes & Cas (plus the other clubs currently in the bottom 4) and while Cas & Widnes have been struggling for form, there is a very strong likelihood that both Leeds and Huddersfield will finish in the middle 8.

As for superior class, you are talking crap.

Leeds have plenty of cash but not enough class, I think that you maybe missing Sinfield and Peacock more than anyone thought you would.

I also think the biggest problem for Leeds and to a lesser extent Huddersfield is thinking they can just do it because they have to much class.
It will take hard work and team spirit. Class on the treatment table or retired isn't enough at the bottom.

We all know the game is played on grass not paper. Hudds, Leeds and Salford might have superior squads to the teams mentioned but they've been far from superior on the pitch where it matters

I know we're struggling and will probably end up in the bottom four but I didn't see much of leeds superior class and good form when we hammered them at headingly 'in recent weeks '

A nice way to kick off a debate but it's not based in reality is it?

You say Leeds and Huddersfield have in recent weeks shown superior form than Wakefield, you then drag Salford into the equation as well.

However, in recent weeks Wakefield have beaten all three of those teams sandwiched in between putting 62 on Wigan, beating Widnes on their 4g pitch and running Hull FC close.

Wakefield have won 6 of the first 13 fixtures (46.2%), if they hold that form then statistically they are on course to win another 5, but let's say they win 4 (33.3%)

Leeds who have won just 3 of their first 13 fixtures (23.07%) would have to win at least 7 of their remaining 12 matches (58.3%). That would represent a huge turnaround in fortune and form for which there aren't any indicators at the moment.

Castleford
Wigan Magic Weekend
Wigan
Catalan
Warrington Away
Salford
Widnes
Hull FC Away
Hull KR Away
& crucially Wakefield Away

Huddersfields stats are only slightly better but they at least look a little more competitive in their performances compared with their early season form.
