Love the way fans look at the games they could've, should've won and think that losing by a try or so means they can add point to their totals whilst completely ignoring the fact that out of their 3 wins 2 of them were won by a score or less and could easily have been losses.

Exactly. Every team has hard luck stories of narrow defeats that could easily have been narrow wins. The fact is if your team is good enough to get those narrow wins then they generally will. If you are relying on a bit of luck or a 50/50 call going your way to get over the line then you aren't very good. A loss is a loss, whether its by a point or 101 points.

That said I've only just got over Liam Watts' ridiculous offload against Wigan earlier this year.

Exactly, close losses are gutting for fans but they are losses regardless, look at ours against you this year, bottom line we weren't good enough for long enough.

I thought Hull were far too guilty of this last year, lots of late consolation tries made those games close and this was 'overlooked'. Were as this year you've got over the line and all credit for that.

My opinion of Hull for a few years had been that we rarely play well as a team, but we have always had a handful of individuals who could do something special at any time, and this often made games closer than they should have been (Manu, Briscoe, Shaul, Lineham etc).

I'm not exactly sure what has caused the change this year but there's a proper team spirit and never say die attitude in the squad this year, even in defeat (Widnes aside which was a really odd game). It's the first time I've been able to say that for ages. In past seasons I've come away from narrow defeats thinking, we did well to hang in there, that could have been a real hammering. This year against Cas, Wigan and to a lesser extent Leeds, I've thought, I'm not entirely sure how we lost that.

My point about the losses was made in response to a poster saying Leeds would not figure in the play offs for a while due to this partcular poor year. His opinion fair enough,All i was saying was we haven't been blown away, we have got very close in a lot of games and could easily, like Saints and Wigan who are playing just as badly as Leeds imo at times, be on the cusp of the play offs right now.Would the same opinion that we were out of the picture for the foreseeable future be formed then?

Of course a lot of teams could point to this, and we lost the games we have because we weren't good enough on the day, but i'll say again i don't see Leeds being a million miles away from the bench mark in SL right now despite being rock bottom as things stand.

The trouble is that losing becomes a habit (as does winning). in answer to Mr ZH above not knowing what the difference is this year for Hull is that they have won a few close ones and this instills a belief that you're never beaten. Losing a few close ones gives the feeling that even in a winning position it will still be a loss. This was never more apparent than in this years Hull derby. What getting on that run takes is probably a mixture of luck, grit and culture.

What you need in these situations is leaders, this is what Leeds are missing this year, in previous years Sinfield (or Peacock) would have grabbed the team by the scruff of the neck and won a couple of close ones, at present I don't see this in the current Leeds squad. Burrow and McGuire aren't that type of player. This is something my own team are seriously lacking and its hard to watch.

Again i don't disagree. We certainly do lack a leader, we will have to find one from somewhere. I still think we have an excellent squad though, it doesn't need an overhaul imo just certain issues identifying and ironing out.Guess we have best part of a year to do that now :)

Hull FC and KR' seasons went in opposite directions after KR's collapse in the derby game.
IF FC had not won that Radford may well have been looking for a new job and yet, after the remarkable comeback, FC have gone from strength to strength.
Talk about fine margins between success and failure.

Although we are struggling for a stand out team at the top of the pile, there is no doubt that this season is one of, if no THE most intriguing seasons since we went to summer rugby and although there maybe a slight lack of quality, we have finally got to the stage where every team is capable of beating anyone on their day (apart from Leeds & Huddersfield  ).

Completely agree, it was 20 minutes that changed a fair bit, still think Pearson would have persevered with Radford but the Hull support would have definitely turned and it would have been a hard loss to recover from. Unfortunately we didn't see it through and the rest is history as they say, comes back to leadership and we didn't have any on the pitch that day.

The only barmy thing is that despite the self inflicted horrors of the last five years at Bradford you're still in total denial - how very very sad.
