I think he looked decent enough last year, and at that point most Warriors fans I read were happy enough with him. Not a world beater but looked pretty good. This year he's obviously been plagued by injury and has struggled for consistency when he has actually been fit to play. I thought when it was announced he was going to the NRL that the Warriors was the wrong team and I still think that. Under someone like Robinson or Hasler or Bennett I really think he has enough talent to make a success of things over there. In contrast, the Warriors have changed coach 3 times since Tomkins signed for them. In his first year he scored 13 tries, made 13 assists and was averaging something like 4 tackle busts and 100m a game. Yeah this second year he's struggled but I still wouldn't say he's been a failure while he was over there.

Samuel Tomkins is obviously past his prime. The rigours of NRL competition have taken their toll.

Wigan will get some value out of him, but in 2016 he is likely to be overshadowed by the more aggressive Zachary Hardaker and the more evasive and speedier Morgan Escare.

He will still rip most teams to bits next year I have no doubts about that

To be honest I'm not sure why Wigan have bought him. It's not as though they currently lack free-scoring backs.

The dough they've forked out would be far better used in the pack.

We proved you didn't need a decent pack when he was waltzing in for 30 tries and creating 30 tries a season.

As already mentioned he got a bad injury before he went over to NZ and I think it's affected him a lot more than he lets on. Same happened to Pat Richards when his achilles went, he was never the same player.

The bottom line with Tomkins is that he went to the NRL on Marquee player money. Regardless if he had a pretty solid first year and missed a fair bit of his second season, Tomkins is expected to deliver and deliver big. The cap in the NRL is all about value for money. Thurston, Inglis and Smith are still value for money on a million $ a year as they are big game match winners. Sam hasn't delivered at the level he is payed for therefore Sterlo is right he has failed.

He will still be a gun player in SL and will have something to prove if anything to himself.

As a Warriors member I feel he has been an utter waste of money and I am delighted he's off.

I hope that Wigan fans are ready for a disappointment. Samuel Tomkins is not the man he used to be.
