On GMR after the Warrington match Lenegan stated that the Tomkins signing wasn't dependent on the marquee rule. No doubt it will take Wigan close to the cap but with Bowen and Burgess off it gives us room. Along with the potential end of the Patrick loan and the rumoured release of one or two of the young lads who are too old for the U19s and not quite cutting the mustard at SL level, I think we'll be fine.

It seems IL has signed Tomkins on big money thinking the marquee player allowance will be passed and Tomkins wage will be off the cap. He openly admits they will be in trouble if it does not. Has Gary H and co tricked IL into this to then vote against it to wipe out Wigans chances in 2016. Seems very risky from IL.

Lenagan admits accommodating the England full-back will apply pressure to their cap but he told Press Association Sport that he expects that to be eased with the introduction of a new marquee player rule which would take a large chunk of money out of the #1.8million cap.

"It was perfect timing," Lenagan said. "The signing was not directly connected to the marquee player rule and, if it is not brought in, it would give us more pressure with the salary cap.

"But our expectation is that the rule will be adopted and that fact encouraged us even more to have the conversation with Sam."

That would make Wigan strong favourites then. With Ratchford at FB and Patton with Cronk in the halves, I think we'll do very well without Sam.

So what he is saying is that if the marquee rule comes in wigan will be able to sign more players (by either moving sam to be our marquee, or signing another marquee) if not they go with the squad they have assembled.

which part of this is the scaremongering that this thread wants it to be?

IL is an excellent owner of the club. excuse me if i put my trust in his track record rather than the scaremongering opposition fans would like us to believe.

Were they to be in any trouble cap-wise they would surely retire O'Loughlin to the coaching staff while keeping his playing wage like they did with Betts a few years back.

If O'Loughlin played a game for Wigan, anything Wigan paid him in that year would go on the salary cap.
