refs seems to be pushing on discipline at scrums. the rules are there for a reason, but is it really a priority?

some people think most of the rules are an annoyance and the game should be "allowed to flow" but personally I think the rules should be enforced at all times, the players should raise their standards to meet the rules not the referee lower his standards to meet the players

It's more annoying that they can be so stringent about scrums but the rules for play the ball the main facet of the game are not adhered or consistently reffed.

If it's today's game you mean, then only one thing needs to be said - James Childs

I am convinced that he referees in some sort of parallel universe, he certainly doesn't appear to be in physical attendance at any match I ever seen him appointed to. There's someone that looks like him, dressed in a ref's uniform and making some decisions but they have little relevance to what's actually going on

I had to laugh when a Warrington forward said "Are you reffing or coaching here, ref?" to Child after he re-set the scrum for the 3rd time...

Just a thought, but perhaps it's that Childs is so far off the pace with the game that he feels he has to compensate by being officious at set pieces.
