Could it be a technical point concerning TW's salary cap and how the players wages are viewed in terms of which cap they sit on?

How does Hitchcox go from playing in Grand final to league 1 in 6 months? No doubt he is good enough for league 1 or championship. I haven't watch him enough to say he should be playing super league. Can any comment how he played last year?

I suspect it's some odd rule about dual reg with a foreign team. But I'm totally guessing, and if that was the case why would you even announce Dual Reg with them in the first place. But I think it's likely when they said dual reg, they meant "close relationship" instead.

Either it's not really dual reg when they announced as such. Odd.
Or it's dual reg and we keep loaning instead of using it. Odd.

Either way, bit odd.

It may be some rule, though I can't quite imagine that the RFL would have gone into anything like such detail as to have different rules for teams from abroad; it is the same competition after all and certainly nothing was said when the dual reg deal was announced. Most of the Toronto players are British based anyway(definitely so in this first part of the season)so it shouldn't really make any difference.

I still don't really see the point of these loans.

On the next month we've got four games, two of which we should win if we put out the reserve team (Coventry and West Wales); one we are never going to win (Warrington, even if they are allowed to play in the cup...) and then there is tough game against Doncaster.

So are we bringing them in just try and win the Doncaster game? Because otherwise I just don't see the need. Wouldn't it have been better to use the games against Coventry and West Wales to give game time to players like Ricketts, Oakes, Andrade, Goodhall etc? Otherwise why are we bothering to have a Reserve team? At the moment it looks like there isn't a pathway from the Reserves to the First Team. Someone gets injured - in thus case McNally - and we immediately sign loan players

I just don't get it...

I was meaning more along the lines of visas and suchlike rather than some sort of xenophobia, but you're right Laithwaite is British (although JBF wasn't). It still wouldn't surprise me if it was some sort of red tape rubbish along those lines though.

I can only assume Kear has made his assessment of various players in the squad and feels we need strengthening. Remember he was recruited after the squad was assembled. I expect some to fall by the wayside.

Bearing in mind we have Bustin on loan from Cas, so want to keep them sweet. And we are supposedly dual reg with Toronto and may need their help if the poop hits the fan. Maybe this is more a case of those clubs wanting their players to get some game time, rather than the Bulls wanting the players? And we're effectively just trying to keep them sweet so we can keep Bustin for the whole year and rely on Toronto for that emergency?

Re: New Loan Signings : Fri Apr 13, 2018 9:34 am
Some of the reserves are clearly potentially a first teamer but I also think that Kear may not see them there just yet.
The pressure on Kear and Chalmers to get promotion this year must be immense. It is unthinkable that we don't go up and if that happened I would then be very concerned about possible over spending this year.
That is why I am not surprised to see the club bringing in better quality when the chance arrives. They could easily turn out to be longer than 1 month.
We must win each game as they come as failure could be a disaster for the club.
As long as we bring in clear quality then I am fine with that and the reserves will have to make sure they improve ready for when these lads go back.
Winning is everything this year and I am sure the fringe players understand that.

The visa issue is a very fair point, though we've had players with visas going out on loan before without problem.

Who was the player we sent out on loan to (I think) Batley, but at the end of the season, when we wanted to cut him and Batley wanted to sign him as their player, we finished up keeping him on our books for the year he was at Batley as, apparently, his visa was only valid when he was 'employed by us'? Well, officially, at least.
