O/T Pubs in Bradford : Tue Jan 17, 2017 12:30 pm
I'm coming up for the football in a few weeks (not a City fan) and I'm after some pubs in the City Centre to visit before the game.

Real Ale is a must and at least one with some decent scran would be nice - or a good lunchtime curry house with a licence. Last time I asked (a few years back) you guys recommended the Sparrow, which was nice (although a bit of a hipster bar for me - but their beer was impecible, so that was fine). Will want to make sure I visit the Corn Dolly at some point, too.

It's twenty or so years since I've lived in Bradford and I understand the pub scene is improving all the time. My only visits now are for Odsal and these are in and out jobs in the car and back on the motorway, so pubs aren't an issue.

North Parade. Bradford Brewery near by.

Short walk from there to Valley Parade.

City Vaults isn't too bad if you don't like the "hipster" feel of North Parade - they do food in there too, although it does get rammed on match day.

There’s a few hipster joints on the North Parade area near Sparrow now. Slightly further from there is the hipster Bradford Brewery. There’s also the definitely non hipster New Beehive.

The Jacob’s Well in the town centre is great for ale. The new Sunbridge Wells is worth a look but only one of the 7 or 8 bars has hand pulled ales. There’s an alright café cum restaurant in there. Zizi’s is a decent Italian near the shopping centre that is open during the day.

Making your gents look like a 1930's Soviet psychiatric ward is about as hipster as it gets.

Minor slight detour from North Parade en route to the ground will take you to the Sweet Centre on Lumb Lane. You can even book:

Tie a piece of string to your leg if you go in there - it's like a labyrinth!

Might be a couple of working girls out in the afternoon too, if you're lucky.

You'd be better off going to the FC and wandering down Preston Street for that. Moved on from Lumb Lane years ago, unless it moved back since the fine fellow with a crossbow.

This! As is it being run by a public school educated Chelsea boy who hasn't got over the fact he's not a Kray twin.
