That would be an apt name as one team will be going Down Down. But I suppose it is know as Whatever You Want.

Seriously though the question whether a SL team can bounce back after a year in the Championship? Probably not because all the SL clubs will begin the process of head hunting the best players from that club, and sponsors are unlikely to spend a fortune when they know there will be very little or no TV coverage. It's an uphill battle.

I think there is some truth in that, but it's far from the whole story

There is a fair bit of difference between, 'commercial sponsorship', which is pretty much a quid pro quo business arrangement, and the standard 'Sugar Daddy', though. These people, often on the board, if not actually chairman of the clubs, are in it for more than just what they can get out - in fact they are basically fans, largely just like us, in fact except that they're but rolling in it, as it were. These people, the Hudgels, Beaumonts and the guy at Hudds [forgotten his name] etc are losing money hand over fist to keep their clubs where they are, or even in existence. Though I guess they have limits too - but to be honest, no one knows just where those limits are.

So Gaskell Clough and Ferguson will be returning to Super League with Hudds. Disappointing.

However for the Bulls I think this is the best result. With Ken Davy behind them Hudds would have been a very strong team in the Championship.

I'd be delighted now if Batley beat Salford and London beat Featherstone to send Salford down and then London beat HKR in the million pound game to send HKR down too. Although London staying down would also probably be better for the Bulls.

Addy and Clark will be watching with great interest next week!

So Gaskell will be not playing for Hudds, as opposed to not playing for us. I suggest they dual reg him with McVities

Wow, I think I'd celebrate for a week if that happened

But OTOH what an utter disgrace if 3 C teams got promoted yet we aren't one of them

It would only be 2 Championship teams getting promoted (Leigh and London) if that scenario happened but I do share your view on how frustrating it would be that we would not be one of those teams!

It would be great for the competiton though.

The middle 8's the following year would then no doubt be even more interesting.

Guess who said this. in a reply to a question by Martyn Sadler, League Express.

What is your view of the Super 8s concept?
I think it has started really strongly. I know the litmus test for everyone is whether someone gets promoted, and until someone does get promoted some people will continue to say it isn’t quite right. But the drama that it has delivered, and the chase in the Championship to get into the top four is compelling.
Many people thought that last season was the best season ever in terms of the closeness of finishes. We were blessed by having the League Leaders settled in overtime, effectively, and if you’d wanted to write it, you would have been writing a Hollywood script. The other thing we have to be mindful of is that there isn’t a league competition anywhere in the globe that can guarantee that you won’t have some matches of less significance than others. When the game made the decision to do this it with eyes wide open. We knew that we were facing opportunities and challenge to move between full-time and part-time. It has re-galvanised the top of the Championship. We have 16 full-time clubs, more than we have ever had, and more full-time athletes we have ever had. We have to ensure we don’t judge something by just one measure when it’s the totality we need to look at. So I am perfectly happy with it.
