Salary cap increase? : Tue Nov 24, 2015 1:57 pm
Interesting news coming out of Leigh. They've had their salary cap increased to 1.3m based on their submitted budget. Surely the Bulls can justify a similar budget if not better. Wonder if we can afford to use it though?

After our recent history I would hope we are spending only what we can afford and no more.

Could be the reason we have 30 players under contract and still looking for a HB/SO.

We don't need a specialist scrum half. I'd use the extra cap space to get 4 more Championship props, 3 2nd rowers and 7 wing/centre/fullback/half backs, all on 2 year deals. Jobs a good un.

Are we dealing with the worst RFL governance ever? I can't find anywhere that the RFL have changed anything yet, if they have and it's not general knowledge see question 1 and the answer is yes!

Derek B is saying lets have a game of rich and richer clubs or chairman to add more money to the cap. So it would be dependant how much they could pay the RFL to get a crack at the best players and have the opportunity to get into SL.

But if it goes on 50% of turnover as the new salary cap, the Bulls can probably beat £1.3m.
Due to our better sponsors and larger attendance etc.

What a bl...y silly game is being played!!!!

seems there's a bit more to story. Beaumont's funding Leigh up to 1million salary cap and making up shortfall in income from them finishing eighth rather than sixth as they planned for. They have approval to spend upto 1.3million provided someone comes forward to fund it. Reading the link doesn't sound like Beaumont is going to fund it himself.

The RL funding model for all clubs apart from Leeds is to get a sugar daddy or forget about winning the big prizes.

That however is one of the key weaknesses of the UK game, though it's a "Super League" there are only 2 or 3 genuine contenders with the financial firepower to get the best pickings from a small player pool, and it was even worse last year in the Championship where it was essentially a two horse race with the occasional upset from a motivated minnow. Compare that to the NRL where the majority of games are competitive and the intensity higher. OK it's good to give your local rivals a stuffing every now and then, but fans really want close hard fought contests going to the wire - as indeed do the TV companies who are the real sugar daddies
