Re: Bradford Bulls 2016 : Mon Aug 31, 2015 8:19 pm
Several players have said they have both championship and super league contracts, but I wonder if some only have championship contracts, and hence might be contractless if we do get promoted. I'm not sure I'd have given a contract extensible to super league on the strength of a show reel.

The corollary is that it might not be in the interests of some players for us to be promoted, which could explain why some ostensibly fit players have not been used at the business end of the season.

Of those I'd have Simon Grix first, very under rated player.

Does anybody know the answer to this, I don't

We know when a team is relegated( us last season) all the players contracts are null and void because they are Super League contracts and new contracts for the championship need to be signed. We know some players probably have 2 contracts in place for next season and it remains to be seen which one they will be on, but i wonder if anybody's contract will be null and void if we go up, as in they only have a championship one

Yes it seems odd but it's only like the super league one been null and void on relegation working the other way round

I guess what my point is, there may be some squad members who signed at the end of last season on 2 year deals, and been as polite as possible, would not be wanted if we got back in super league

I would be surprised if a player chose to sign under those circumstances, but I can't see why it wouldn't be possible.

Which was my point from earlier in the thread. Yes, it might be nice for a player to get a wage without having to play, but that's very short term thinking. If you're not playing, you're off the radar of other clubs which might mean having to take a bigger pay cut than you might like if you wait out your current deal before switching clubs.

Better that the club is honest with players who's services are no longer required and do everything they can to facilitate their exit to a new club.

As for the whole 2 contract thing, I assumed that something like that had to be in place before the start of the year given the players we signed who were willing to drop down to play Championship rugby league. It's likely that players such as Gaskell haven't been on a massive wage this year but have been promised a big pay jump if they are successful in getting the club promoted. But I doubt there's players at the club with 2 contracts who aren't going to get that SL contract activated should we go up.

I think we, as a club, were fairly lucky in one extent at the end of last season and that is that there were no promoted clubs taking our place in SL. If there had been, then it's more than likely that a few of our better players who opted to stay might, perhaps, have made a different decision. Truth is though, with two clubs going down, that 's [for round figures] around 50 players in the two squads, there was never any chance that the majority of those could ever be fitted into the rosters of a league with two fewer clubs. This, in part at least, has to be how we managed to hold on to as many SL experienced players as we did.

I suspect the next team to come down, if indeed there is one under this system, may not be as fortunate, particularly given the large increases in competition money for SL clubs.

I heard yesterday that Henry, Shaw, Brook, Walker and Matt Ryan have been told there is no offer and to explore other options.

Brook- we know has joined Keithley
Walker- looks set to retire
Shaw- seems to be on his way to Hull
Henry- ?
Ryan- ?

No mention to the likes of Samir, Daives, Etu, Ulgiua who seem to have disappeared from the face of the earth.

Also Tim Smith doesn't look to be staying at Wakefield... Could he be worth an attempt to sign? 29 so couple more years whilst Oacar comes on a bit maybe?

Samir, Davies, Uaisele and Ulugia are all contracted for next year so unless another club makes us an offer for them they will still be here in 2016.
3 out of the 4 haven't 'disappeared', they are on loan and playing regularly. Keighley have expressed an interest in signing Samir permanently but I'm not sure about Dewsbury or Batley wanting to keep Uaisele/Ulugia.
I've said elsewhere before now that I would want to keep Ulugia, if only for his utility value.
