A couple of ours In England Shirts : Mon Apr 27, 2015 10:36 pm
I am talking about Lee Gaskill and Adam O'Brian. They are clearly Super League quality and would be first teamers in any side up there in the Gods.

Adam is a skilful footballer, good tackler and hard as nails and is not afraid of anyone and even as the games go by, he is improving. This year he has been amazing. Lee is such a handful and with International quality around him potentially he could be devastating the big guns. I wonder does he become invisible before he cuts through defences :D Serious contenders don't you think?

Er.....no

Both have potential to be England players but both need to prove they are the best in Super League first to be considered. If we are to challenge the Aussies and Kiwis we need to pick players that are playing at the top level every week - and this is not the Championship or even Super League.

No doubt in AoB's potential, he's certainly one of the better young hookers in the league. His time will come in Super League with or without the Bulls.

For me, Gaskell is a case of somewhat unfulfilled potential. Sadly I think his opportunity to kick on and be an international may have come and gone. Take nothing away from him, he's doing well in a bulls shirt and I cant fault his commitment in staying with us. But there are seven or eight halves who immediately come to mind who IMHO would be ahead of him even if he were plying his trade in the top flight.

That's interesting. It strikes me that the players in Super League is near collective Narcissism, as if they are the best there is.

I am sorry to acknowledge that with little exposure and even some ignorance about the unknowns in the Championship until this season. There is some quality in this league.

Taking the last world cup for instance, there were SL players who were outstanding for their clubs but picked for Scotland, Wales, Ireland and they were dire. Its the team around them that makes them good.

I just thought being tested in a squad environment would answer a few questions. Its good to see our home grown John Bateman looking to put himself in the frame.

It is a handicap not playing at SL level every week, but I know class when i see it, and bot AOB and LG have it in spades. That said, there's no way you can pick a player from the Championship for internationals.

Have to agree in truth, though it has happened in the past.

That though was probably when every RL player was part time, so the difference was maybe not quite as pronounced - that said, there are now full-time pro clubs in the championship so, just possibly, it could happen again in the future.

They picked Ben Cockayne for England, so anything's possible.

Sadly if Macca carries on with his thinking from the four nations he has a team mate who is absolute garbage but get's picked for England regardless.

We had a home grown back rower in Elliot Whitehead that was great last year and picked in the team of the year behind him.

Yes that's true. It leaves us all scratching our heads as who gets an opportunity as far as Whitehead is concerned I don't know who you mean as our current coach's team mate is ?
