The worst ref display ever? : Sun Jun 24, 2012 4:28 pm
In the calmness of after the match, and being able to comment since we won, I have been thinking back to see if I could remember a worse display from a referee, and I can't. And whilst the Bulls took the majority of the stick, I should imagine that Wakey fans will feel the same too.

A game as fast and hard as Origin can see just 1 or 2 penalties, and the best games are not overshadowed by a "ME ME ME LOOK AT ME" ref, but this idiot dictated much of the game, spoiling it as a spectacle, and heavily influencing the scoreline.

He needs to be told that we come to watch rugby, not a procession of penalties. He also needs to carefully watch the video and try to analyse why some of the pens he called were so random, when at most occasions he let the same offences or much worse go entirely unpunished.

Entirely ruined the game, wound up the whole stadium, and was utterly incompetent. Perhaps the best example of his crazy decision making was his nutty decision to penalise the Bulls at the second half kickoff for alleged offside. I have watched the game for decades and unless players absolutely take the mickey, for god's sake, play on man like everyone else does. Maybe pay more attention at a short kickoff, for obvious reasons, but here? Really? Why does one referee, maybe once a year, single out such a ludicrous penalty? When was the last time you saw one?

The pity of it is that both teams were playing reasonably well, both teams seemed up for it, but we will never know what the score would have been had the referee allowed there to be a rugby match. He should pack it in, if that's the best he can do. If he had a pair, then when he's watched the video, he'd apologise for totally ruining a game.

He looked out of his depth, but he's probably the best of not many options. It's a big problem for the RFL I think.

The odd thing was that he was OK for first half hour or so.

Then it was like he decided to make himself more 'prominent' with - as you say - some really bizarre decisions (for both sides)

This not standing square malarky needs to stop, both sides do it and then he plucks one out of the air for no other reason than to blow the whistle.

All fans want is for the rules to be applied for BOTH SIDES, not really hard is it.

Spent the whole game wondering why he seemed to favour Bradford and then listened to you lot boo him off, just shows how we see it differently

The referee Mr Hicks was totally inconsistent with his decisions it did look like he wanted to award a penalty a every opportunity, and missed some blatant high tackles and offside. He must have gone to the Peter Pan school of refereeing as his decision making was straight out of a fairy tale book.k. :READING:

Some of his decisions were beyond bizarre. Well done to both sets of players for not losing the plot completely.

Seemed to make it up as he went along and I was surprised it didn't kick off.

The problem the game has is that we haven't enough quality referees. Not sure what the plan is to overcome this problem.
