went to Ripon today to watch my mate, Lewis Birkinshaw (17) from Bradford Academy carry the torch. Interestingly enough he was on Bulls scholarship until this year.

Meh the torch hasn't got time to parade round Odsal on Sunday - it's got an urgent appointment at the home of the Champions later that day which it needs to hurry to

Bulls then unfortunatly off home to watch England as it is a school night -_- why can't England play on Saturday?? Then I could play rugby, go out to club and watch England then watch the mighty Bulls on sunday

I have no interest seeing the torch and struggle to understand the mass hysteria surrounding this whole relay. Perhaps people are unaware that the concept was created for the Nazi Olympics of 1936. The symbolism is a little creepy when you consider the Nazi use of torches during Kristallnacht and many of their mass rallies.

They certainly weren't the "Nazi Olympics", as you put it and trying to link the white supremacism of Hitler, to the idea of a torch as a symbol of evil is nonsensical and myopic.

Indeed, if a torch was being touted as a symbol of Naziism, then celebrating the Olympic torch as a beacon of goodness, community and hope is the perfect way to reclaim that symbolism.

Just my opinion, of course.

If you seriously think the 1936 Olympics were not the 'Nazi games' intended to be used to promote the myth of Aryan superiority then you are quite the historian.

It was the Goebbels, the Minister for Propaganda, who shaped Hitler's view that the games could be of great use for their regime. Hitler also harboured plans to take over the holding of the Olympic games on a permanent basis. This comment was made post-Olympics, one must reach the conclusion that the games served the needs of the Fascist propaganda to a large extent therefore.

Secondly I did not refer to 'a torch' but rather that the Olympic torch relay was created for those games at a time when the Nazi used torches to help carry out their horrific agenda. If you are unable to feel that is a little disturbing then I do not what to add on the matter.
