| I think he deserves the respect and what could be better than recognising the loss of a great rugby legend than having a minute silence at the grand final where all club supporters shall be. Hope the RFL do it

| The man divided opinion and personally I think a minutes applause would be safer. Less chance of a few mindless idiots who've been on the pop all day embarrassing themselves and causing problems.

I agree.
The RFL have confirmed though that there'll be a minute's silence.
I worry that the combination of a day of drinking, along with some of Saints "fans" (term used loosely so as not to tar others with the same brush) who will only be there because it's the final and for a day out (and may harp back to Long/Gilmour incidents), may cause some to be disrespectful.
If I remember correctly, the last time there was a minute's silence at the Grand Final (I forget who it was for), there were a section of drunk idiots making noise. I really hope that doesn't happen on Saturday, but I wish they'd gone with the minute's applause just in case.

| Having a one minutes silence after the trouble of the past three years is a bold move IMO.
Hope the supporters however drunk and intoxicated they may be, give Terry the respect he deserves.

| I hope we have one at the first home game next season too.
It will be disgraceful if anyone ruins the minutes silence at the Grand Final.

Disgraceful but entirely predictable, inevitable and avoidable IMHO. I would suggest there is almost zero chance of this being respected fully and will add a nasty negative to the showpiece of the season. (Hope I'm very wrong BTW)
If the RFL want to mark the moment I would suggest a minute of applause would be better (dont normally like that idea but it would diffuse this situation), or just have the teams wear black armbands and save the silence for the clubs' home games.

| The RFL have done the right thing IMO.
A minutes silence is fitting and if scumbags choose to interupt it it's their decision and they should feel suffer the consequences. They should not expect anything less than respect from people within the stadium. You shouldn't expect any less than people observing the silence otherwise that makes you no better than those that choose to behave lower than civilised humans and you endorse it IMO.
At the end of the day this goes way beyond a game of Rugby league and is about an awful human tragedy. A widow, two fatherless little girls and two parents who have now outlived both their children.
I have removed my avatar of Terry in a Bulls shirt as I felt it hypocritical as I slated him in his last year at bradford and said he was feeling sorry for himself in his autobiography. I wish now I'd been more sympathetic considering the harsh life he actually lead off the field and this is even after reading it all in his book. I think a lot of fans are questioning their judgement of a human being based on what they see on the pitch and read about in the press. I am and it's terrible that it took this to do that. He wasn't feeling sorry for himself he was deeply troubled.
He was a great player and should be remembered as that nothing else in Rugby league terms. But that was not the most important thing he was, he was also a husband and a father. Life beats Rugby league any day of the week.
If Sean Long can forgive him, write a chapter for his book and mourn him then so can fans of the game. It really is just that a game and what goes on on the pitch should stay on the pitch.

Out of order. Not happy about that at all.
Because of what this is all about, I'm not going to make a big issue on here, as it's not appropriate, so I'll leave it at just that statement.

OK that wasn't that right choice of words. What I should have said is I expect everyone to acknowledge and respect the minutes silence. If people don't respect it it would be outrageous. I think it is right that the RFL expect that too. If RFL and me are being naive then we'll find out on Saturday night and I'll be disgusted.
I really am sorry if I've said anything out of order please accept my apology it honestly wasn't meant to be like that and I understand how you would have read and taken it that way. This is neither the time nor the place to be making statements like that and it really wasn't meant that way.
I can understand people's concerns and I can understand why people would suggest a minutes applause.

| Thank you, I appreciate you clarifying that
I agree that a minute silence is undoubtedly the best way to pay tribute. And if everyone upholds it, it will be a great thing to have 70,000+ people all silent to remember a great player and acknowledge the tragedy.
Speaking from experience though, these events attract a lot of people who are just there for a day on the lash, and it's usually them causing the bother. The ones that don't go to the regular games and just jump on for the big one. It's often them fighting in the ground and I remember it being them disrupting a previous minute silence. If this was any game other than a final, I wouldn't be concerned.
Let's hope it does prove to be the correct decision and everyone pays the correct tribute.
