We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

Huddersfield : Sun Jul 17, 2016 5:36 pm
Decent game today.

Lots of vocal support for the lads.
We were far from a killer team and there is still plenty to work on, but the second half we really worked hard to defend the line.
Walsh Kicked very well and generally the whole team put in a shift.

It was a pretty entertaining game too.

I'd be interested in a breakdown from someone who went. I listened to Ray and Alan, but they're more performance art than commentary now (think the two grumpy old men muppets in the theatre balcony, but with St Helens accents), and it's hard to get a picture of individual performances and structure from them.

Re: Huddersfield : Sun Jul 17, 2016 7:16 pm
I'm far from an expert.

But we look like a side that struggles to believe in ourselves.
Having said that our confidence grew as Huddersfield struggled to break us down in the second half. Some of that was down to Huddersfields ineptitude to capitalise.

Lomax for me had a quiet game, Marshalled the defensive line well and latched on to a great offload from louie but did not dazzle like in his first game back.

Owens was OK. Took his try well and offered himself as a runner. But his talents are limited. When a high ball goes up he does not dominate that area.

Swift was as effective as he was allowed to be and is possibly the only player we have who can make something from nothing.

Fleming handled his counter part well and seems pretty solid defensively. Certainly no worse than Peyroux at Centre. Maybe better defensively.

Percival got lots of good ball today but seemed to struggle when deciding whether to run or pass. But that could be just getting used to his change in winger.

Walsh looked good, controlled the attack for us and slotted back in very nicely.

Turner ran the ball strongly. Kicked when he needed to. About as good as I've seen from him at stand off.

Walmsley looked strong and was a handful if not devastating.

I thought Roby had a quiet game for him. Ran when he needed to, but was not a stand out player for me today.

Amor did ok when he came on.

Lms was good

I thought Thompson put in a great shift tackling in the second half.

Vea played limited minutes.

We were better than average, we looked organised going forwards.

But on the back foot we struggled in the first half.
Second half we got better and Huddersfield got worse.

the Claret And Gold Machine is ready to roll

sunday September 1st 2013, when a dream became a reality!!

Re: Huddersfield : Sun Jul 17, 2016 7:48 pm
you did the basics better than we did, but that wasn't hard, lots of unforced errors, a referee determined to let the game flow, by ignoring the rules etc.
Fully deserved win, you took advantage of some bad errors but were clinical, i didn't think you did anything particularly special, just got the basics right.

Good luck.

Pretty good summary and fair comments from Meast.

Nice to enjoy a game in the sun and to see the defence tighten up in the second half. Equally a lots of unforced errors from hudds. For me Amor, LMS and Thompson were the stand outs. Roby and Lomax quiet..

Winning margin would have been more Percival had got his decision making sorted and passed to Swift on least three occasions. At one point goal kicking looked as if it might cost us.

Referee was poor for both sides with shallow ten years and play the ball.

All in all good win .

Dave lyon on wish fm was full of praise for lomax and was saying he's the best fullback in super league and will be up there for England team at the end of year.

He also said we was clinical in attack.

Not sure about the clinical bit - we blew a lot of changes - as did hudds to be fair

He is far more qualified than me, but I didn't see it in this game. But he did well organising the defence.

Re: the ref he made some weird choices.

A knock on against Roby and he never even looked like a loose ball.
A 2 on 1 strip on a Huddersfield player that was also given as a knock on.
There were many others for and against.

But having said that lots of players made bad calls, Percival has already been mentioned but Brough had a few weird decisions.

It was nice to have a game in the sunshine for once.
I just don't think night rugby is quite as enjoyable.
I get the corporate argument and the consistency for kick offs. But Sunday at 3:00 is a nice treat.
