Pete Mataútia being linked to a 2 year deal with Saint Helens.
I wonder how his father being an ex Saints player (Vila Matautia) and I assume a UK citizen now, effects his situation?

I doubt very much that we need another three quarter. We're full up in that department

ENGLAND CALLS CENTRE
Peter Mata’utia remains hopeful he can strike a deal with Newcastle but interest from overseas is intensifying.
Market Watch can reveal St Helens have offered Mata’utia a two-year-deal with talks of a third season.
The Knights, however, are only willing to offer him a one-year contract.

Interesting. As others have said, the only logical thing this suggests is that Morgan is on his way out (which would be a shame, because he's been great for the last month and is really finding his feet).

Morgan Percival and Mata'utia doesn't go in the team though, and we have far more pressing concerns in the forwards to resolve, so I can only hope this is a needs must signing if it comes to be.

Pete has played fullback, centre and wing at NRL level. He was a 5/8 as a junior, but that was years ago.

Re Matautia no three quarters are earmarked to leave the club. Matautia would play backrow at Saints. Peyroux likely to leave if we can secure another backrower.

Barba
Makinson Morgan Percival Grace
Fages (Smith/ Richardson)
Thompson Roby Walmsley
Taia Mata'utia
Wilkin

(Lomax/ Smith) Knowles Amor Douglas

Works as a first choice 17 for me next year. Especially as theres a load of competition in the background too with the likes of Swift, Bentley and LMS left out of that side. Don't know enough about Mata'utia to know whether he will easily convert to a back rower, but I trust JH to know!

Thats also without considering replacing anyone still in contract next year (looking at you Lee!)

Pete has turned down a 1 year offer at Newcastle and said he is leaving, but no announcement about where he is going.
He is too small to play second row, although 2 of his 3 brothers are now very capable second rowers.
