I think we are also forgetting that we were not all that far off for the first part of the year, all our players haven't suddenly become rubbish, don't forget Warrington (and Catalans) were in the middle 8s last year and with a change of coach and a few layers they are in the GF.
For the last half of the year we have been dire no doubt but there's no reason why we can't see an upturn in performances which should see us in the top half of the table.
Sorry Christopher, but you are not correct there. We may well have been in a better league position, but we were still far off in the first half of the year. Even Hetherington had the grace to admit in that interview last week, that AT NO POINT in the season did we look close to the top teams. A couple of results doesn't change that. Hetherington quite rightly was talking about performance.
What this season highlighted, although it should have been seen much earlier, is that we do have some rubbish players. You are correct it hasn't happened overnight, they simply were not good enough before, but due to how good certain others were, this lack of ability was covered up.
Gotcha- you are wrong. For the first 3rd of the year we did look close to the top teams.we beat Saints and Warrington away from home and had narrow losses to Cas,Hull,Wigan and Warrington which really could have gone either way.the start of the rot for me was when we lost Watkins and got destroyed by Cas at Magic.

Sorry, but no you are wrong, we simply didn't. There is a difference between a scoreline/result, and a performance. Many teams win with poor performances, even championship winning teams, but consistently poor always ends in trouble. Hetherington was correct in what he said, we never were close this season at any point.

As I say Warrington and Catalan were at the bottom end last year, they added some players and in Warrington case a new coach, I think we need to see what the next few months bring and then see how we start the season, there is no reason why we can't be in the top half of the table next year competing for a place in the 5.

Oh I wasn't dissagreeing with you on that bit, not at all. Just purely on the bit about "not far off" early part of year.

result wise we weren’t far off, i agree with you about overal performance but to be honest I’m not that interested in looking back to the beginning of last year and less interested in looking into the back end, it’s done were in SL I want to forget about it all and hopefully we can see an improvement, Im wuite happy for a year of mid tableness as long as desire and performance improves

We were close in the Hull, Wigan and Warrington games but the reason we lost was down to awful, awful play and game plan. I still shudder at the on-side kick in the Wigan game.

I agree, but point is we could easily have won those games and been right near the top mid way through the season.
It has been an awful season don't get me wrong, but even though we finished 2nd and won the comp last year i didn't think we were that much better than first half of this season, we just got the right side of the close games.
The final scorelines in games no matter how close never proved we were "in contention" imo. We put an hour tops in of quality performance in a couple of games the rest of the season we were lucky to look decent for a full half & in many cases we couldnt string 15 minutes of quality RL together.
I get what we're all saying about wanting to put last year to bed but I really hope the club aren't going in to the off season with the same attitude. We need them to be dissecting it and getting to the core of whatever the problem is/was. We've suddenly (over the last 3 years) been told there is a "standard end of season review". It would seem that for the last few years, the conclusion has just been "more of the same please". That needs addressing IMO.
