Leeds RL Hall of Fame : Tue May 09, 2017 1:53 pm  

I see there is going to be a Leeds RL Hall of Fame .Only four inductees per year I wonder how many inductees me and Juan Cornetto will see ? must be retired 5 years so it will be awhile before any of golden generation come into consideration. Its going to be an interesting feature of the new Stadium development

Good move.

Minimum 150 games is part of criteria so that equals roughly 5 seasons or more with us. For me, the first 4 inductees should be Lewis Jones, John Holmes, David Ward and Gary Schofield.. would have probably included sinfield in that but retirement criteria rules him out.

never saw lewis jones but prob a definate with his records on retirement , ward and holmes saw in the 80s not the 70s ., the 99 shirt had older names than lewis jones that might be inducted
think for achievement at leeds in recent times harris, morley , mcdermott , senior .. more merit than schoey and from his day hanley

The first 4 are being announced at the anniversary dinner for cc 57 and 77 teams on Thursday night.
Taking my old man for a trip down memory lane. Players from barrow and Widnes have also been invited so should be a good night. Lewis jones, David ward , john Holmes and John Atkinson would be my guesses as the first inductees.

Good shout - I was guessing they may try and tie in with the 2 teams playing in the 2 cup finals but can't argue with those. Big Arthur was a real character as well as great player. Some tales that I can't put in writing.

I was lucky enough to be friends with Trevor Foster and he always spoke very fondly of Arthur.

Some player too according to him.

I think it will be four from different era's or decades I think Jones will be receiving his because he will be the oldest surviving candidate at the dinner and of course John Holmes then maybe Fred Webster pre 1920s then Joe Thompson 1920s

He was way before my time of watching but very entertaining to listen on the handful of times I heard him holding court after a game.

I'd actually like to see the first four places awarded to ex players who are still alive but may not be with us too much longer. Not because I think they're any more deserving, just that it would be nice to acknowledge their contribution while we still can.
