Cas v Wgan : Thu May 26, 2016 10:12 pm
Darryl Powell livid with Thaler's performance tonight. ' he lost his cool' I tend to agree with him. The brothers Tomkins if they wonder why they get dogs abuse I think it was there to see exactly why. Sh**houses the pair of 'em

Thaler appeared keener on the Castleford infringements than he was on similar looking Wigan ones. Another sin-binning for dissent and probably rightly so given the ruling on the play was correct IMO.

I don't think Thaler was as bad as Powell or Gronk on VT is making out. Got some calls that could've gone either way which happens, he did however drop a clanger for the kick/offside on the HT hooter.

Obvious going into the game that the view of Thaler from the Cas players/coach is frosty and for a team that you don't usually associate with being wound up they were tonight. Very similar to us and James Child or Silverwood post the 2010 WCC and essentially a mental thing that you're going into a match expecting rough calls from the ref.

With regards to Sam Tomkins, got to say Solomona gave as good as he got in terms of niggle. Looked like their was bad blood between them, expect it between a couple of forwards but strange to see a winger & FB be so wound up with each other.

"I'm sorry, but I would hope that we would beat Cas with a 1 day turnaround."

An arrogant Wigan fan a few days before we stuffed them 18-4 at the JJB.

I was delighted to see that from denny. Normally I think he's a bit of a soft lad (amazing finisher) but is that soft how's he gunnar cope when the going gets tough, cos some of the wingers in our game nowadays are tough as old boots. So to, see him getting stuck in and not letting wigans backs boss him was pleasing to see.

Tomkins always likes to wind up other backs that he thinks he is better than (and that are skinnier than him), I remember once when Makinson knocked on and he ran right over and started winding him up, I can safely say I have never wanted a Saints team to win as much as that, luckily ol' turstile tompkins missed a tackle at the death and wigan lost

noticed he wasnt doing as much winding up in the NRL, but that might be because I can only think of 2/3 occasions where he actually outplayed his opposite number

But remember guys we cant boo him when they play us at Headingly or he might go complain to the papers again
Gotcha

Don't think Thaler was bad at all. It is only a couple of weeks ago in the cup against Salford where Cas got handed the game with some really bad calls for them, so they can hardly get all uptight after this.

Also thought what the hell with Sam Tomkins. My god, has any player ever regressed so much, he looks 5h1te.

Thought he was fine tbh. Tomkins looks ineffective though

I thought Bateman was more a sh$thouse than Tomkins last night.
He was the one who started the skirmish whilst trying to get up off the floor in the tackle.
He does this quite often trapping the player in.
This time he uses his lower body to hit the player on the floor Dorn noticed it.
Great player though :x
Tomkins also made one or two decent tackles to stop what looked like certain try`s.

This week: Four keys to a Rhinos win in the WCC

Re: Cas v Wgan : Fri May 27, 2016 8:30 am
The try off the bomb where Powell(?) was three yards in front of the kicker and then went within ten was an awful miss from all the officials involved.

The one just prior to H/T I thought he got right. If you're in front of a team-mate who touches the ball, you can put yourself onside by retreating back behind the point at which the ball was touched. Which I thought he did on first look.

His inconsistent application of the laws around dissent continues apace though. Another player binned for something that those around him have been getting away with all season.
