McDermott V Chester : Sun May 22, 2016 3:09 pm
So all the so called loyal Leeds fans idolise McDermott I ask the question that if we accept the past is in the past and when we had great players who won the treble for Leeds by pure self drive. Then how come Chris Chester with a whole host of good club players but no real international superstars can motive them to win 8 out 9 games but McDermott with half a team of current, Ex or future internationals appears to be unable to motive himself to give an honest interview to sky let alone direct the team to a win.

Drum roll

Roll out the buffoon who shows a photo of all 3 trophies and claims McDermott won on his own blaming it on injuries and no training facility

This should be funny!

Re: McDermott V Chester : Sun May 22, 2016 3:30 pm
McDermott deserves great credit for all he achieved over the previous 5 seasons. His time is at an end though, its just a matter of when in the coming weeks/months GH decides to remove him.

Chester seems to have been a breath of fresh air for Wakey who have got that beautiful thing going called 'momentum' and are riding the crest of a wave, good luck to them. It won't last imo, and i think even the most ardent Wakey fan would agree on paper they aren't top 8 material but it looks like they will make it which is a great achievement and they should enjoy it while they can.

If Wakey and Chester are still punching above their weight the rest of the season and into next then we can have a comparison but for now he is still in the new coach effect and honeymoon period. In truth the coach who should be compared with McDermott for turning rags to riches over a good period of time is Daryl Powell, Cas don't just win they play some great rugby at times too.

But Wakey keep winning...and Leeds keep losing. That's the bottom line. "On paper" means sodd all really.

If you looked at last nights Leeds team and that was at the start of year, before knowing what we know, how many Wakey or for that matter Huddersfield players would anyone ha e gladly put ahead in the Leeds team? The injury thing is just an excuse. The fact a coach can't get a team of players to play to their potential is far more the situation.

Of course but the question was comparing a guy who has been at a club for over 5 years and won every trophy going and another who has been at a club for 9 games, there can be no comparison imo.

How did Chester get on first part of the year at Hull KR?

Re: McDermott V Chester : Sun May 22, 2016 4:03 pm
If you are going to make comparisons you have to look at both sides of the story. Chester was sacked early in the season ironically after a defeat by Wakefield. He has had a remarkable run of success at Wakefield with a team that Smith did some good ground work. But look at the other side of the coin. HKR after sacking Chester appointed a new coach and lost 4 out of the next 5 games and are only three points above us.

Do you think there maybe some regrets over at HKR just now?

Then look at Hudderfield who like Leeds had an appalling injury list. They stuck with their coach and now their injured players are returning they look to have regained some confidence and are a totally different side. The same will happen with Leeds if we can get back the first team.

Honeymoon period?.....9 out of last 10 games won? On paper they are top 8 material and were massively under performing under Brian Smith. Johnstone, Jowitt, BJB, Hall, Tupou, England,Miller, Finn would all easily get into the Leeds team...If injuries are kept to a minimum they will be in the top 8 end of season comfortably.

You are right though try and get Daryl Powell for next season...a lot better coach!

Do you mean currently? because yes with the injuries and poor form they probably would all get in, but were we to have a full squad to choose from i personally wouldn't take any thanks.

That's one conclusion. But I do not share your view of the superior quality in the Leeds squad. The other night Castleford put us to the sword and many said the side we put out should have won. I think this is an arrogant point of view as in Junior Moors, Solomona, Gale, Millington and Dorn they have players that are way better than our equivalent position players. You could make a good case out for McMeeken too.

IMO we did not recruit nearly well enough after losing Sinfield, JP & Kylie last year and we are now lacking some class and few if any game changers. Other senior players were also past their best some time ago and others were overrated playing in a winning side so with our main leaders gone their shortcomings are now exposed. For many years our academy has not produced players of sufficient quality and so there was nobody good enough to demand a first team spot when injuries and poor form affected the regulars with the result that we do not have enough strength in depth.

IMO there is a serious lack of class in the whole of SL with senior players looking jaded and few classy young players stepping up to take the strain. So rather than leveling up we have been levelling down. We urgently need to refresh our squad and add some pace in the back row and we need a proven game manager and leader at half back.

I do think the current side will transform performances when the missing return but perhaps having a season of failure will be the catalyst we need to recruit the necessary quality.

"others were overrated"....plural? I can guess one you might be referring to

Man of paper (Golding) or man of cardboard (Watkins) much better at FB than any man of steel in your opinion eh!?

Actually you mostly speak a lot of sense here
