Watkins' dancing feet : Sat Aug 29, 2015 6:28 pm
...and his subime passing. He is a winger's dream. My M.O.M. next to Peacock and Sinfield of course.

Hardaker and Hall were kept quiet, but there are so many fantastic players in this team you can bet at least one of them will shine. It was Watkins' turn today. Taking nothing away from the headline grabbing performance of Brscoe, Watkins had a big say in his 5 glorious tries.

He's the most naturally gifted centre this country has produced since Gleeson, but Watkins has the added athleticism to go with it.
To me he can go as far as he wants in the game, the key will be hoe much he wants it.

Why? He's improving all the time, and providing entertainment to super league every week. We need more players like him in our competition, not less.

Watkins is at that age were he should be a world beater now not just still improving.
I have great sympathy with the arguement that the sport need more players like him in the sl, but lets be honest, we simply dont produce enough of that standard of player in enough quality, to justify keeping them here.

Until we can produce Kalum Watkins,Zak Hardaker's enmass then these type of players need to go down under to reach ther full potential for themselves and the national team.
I personally dont have a problem with watching antipodeans if they make rl more competitive and exciting

And replace them with?

If its the third choice centre/full back from the NRL, I'm not convinced this improves the game here,

Makes the NRL more competitive and exciting, maybe internationals too.

Why not see if we can keep them here and make it more competitive and exciting here too, by giving other teams something to aspire to.

I'm not sure I necessarily agree that players only improve if they go to the NRL. With the exception of Hodgson none of the players that have gone their have really improved. Tomkins hasn't. Ellis and Graham were already world class players when they left, and Morley had all the skill he had coached out of him there.
England have improved out of sight since the 2008 world cup, but that's more to do with the quality of the talent pool improving than the amount of players we have playing in the NRL.

This has always been my opinion.

For me Watkins biggest flaw has been not knowing just how good he is. He needs that cockiness/attitude that makes him realise that he's the game breaker. Someone like Sean Long always knew he was the guy to make the difference.

Kallum is already one of the best centres in the world and doesn't need to play in the NRL to show that imo.
If the game here is going to thrive/grow and continue to attract new fans etc then keeping the likes of KW here are paramount to that process.
The scary thing is for the opposition at least he's still got his best years ahead of him and i personally look forward to seeing the likes of him & Zak taking this club forward and making their own "Golden Generation" in the Blue n Amber.
