With the completion of the (almost) regular season as far as playing all the other clubs home & away, I thought I'd see how this season compares with 2014.
This year's ave. att. is 15921, 5% higher than last year.
8 matches had a higher attendance, 3 lower - vs Cas over 1000 down but played on a Thursday.
Giants (also a Thurs night game) & Widnes but both games were less than 300 lower.
The lowest att. was vs Giants (12878) & the highest was vs Saints (18514)
With 4 home games to come in the Super 8s including games against, Saints & Wigan, this year looks to be on target to exceed comfortably last years total attendances.
If we get to Wembley & OT, the GH will have the broadest of smiles.
Even if we don't it should still be measured a success financially.

When we averaged over 17K it was when Bradford were doing ok and gauranteed a 22K capacity .I also remember getting over 17k for London in that period

GH's "Last chance to pay tribute to the golden generation" marketing wheeze, much derided on here as I recall, seems to have struck gold. I'd say those extra attendees have had their money's worth.

I'd also say the superb way in which Leeds play this year has had an effect.

But I'd also credit Leeds with putting effort into getting people involved with the club. The last week or so has been a masterclass in how to engage with new and current supporters from Leeds.

IIRC -
Friday - Game v Salford - half time games from local amateur clubs plus 200 or so girls from the Dance thingy.

Sunday - Children's Day - All manner of events and activities including RL, football and cricket tournaments drew approx 6,000 people.

Monday - Coach Education - 30 to 40 amateur coaches at coach workshop at Kirkstall

Tuesday - Rhinos Foundation Touch Rugby - 30 to 40 people of all ages and abilities playing touch rugby

Wednesday - Sponsors Day - the first team doing activities/training with sponsors and their kids/relatives

Thursday - Sinny's Club event - activities on the pitch & changing room tour for 60-70 Sinny's club members (those aged 12-16) and their parents/relatives.

Sunday - Game v Catalans - huge number of youngsters playing RL at halftime highlighting the effort put in by Leeds to increase participation. IIRC Leeds have helped increase u7's participation by 400% since 2012 in Leeds.

I don't think Leeds are perfect in what they do but if all clubs put as much effort into gaining and keeping fans as Leeds do then the sport would be a lot healthier.

"Leeds is the greatest club in Rugby League"

Re: Attendances : Mon Jul 27, 2015 6:10 pm
I think the club has engendered a pride in the City as well as the club. Throughout my life as a Leeds Rugby and Leeds Utd supporter I don't think I've seen a bond so close between the Leeds public and a sporting team. For such a massive City the Leeds public have been for the most part ambivalent towards their clubs, the current board must take a great deal of credit for strengthening civic pride and getting people down to Headingley. I used to envy the Scousers and the Geordies for the passion they showed towards their City's clubs, but I think there is a growing bond between us and our team at the moment.

I also think that the 12 month interest free option to buy a season ticket has been an excellent innovation.
I hope it lasts, I guess that rises in the Bank rate from its present 0.5% will determine that since the current deal won't be costing the club too much plus it helps with cash flow planning.
I believe that any season ticket holder who doesn't avail themselves of this payment option is missing a trick.

I think the e-mail marketing the club has been doing has been very good, far better than what has gone before. Often its not even a 'sales' email, just giving you a bit of news about the club or the games which are upcoming.

I think our club do a lot of good work. One thing that they aren't doing too well is merchandise for the little ones. Took my 3 and a half year old to his first game this week and there was nothing for him in the club shop. Nothing to do with attendances I know, but just wanted to say.

Could that just be in light of the things outlined above and that the kits for the younger ones are popular sellers..?
