The future's bright, it's blue and amber : Sun Jul 05, 2015 5:22 pm
I said, before the season kicked off, that we've got nothing to fear from any of the other teams in SL.
The old guard combined with the new (Ward, Handley, Golding, Singleton etc) plus the new signings Cuthbertson and Garbut and the guy from Hudds (forgot his name) will see us through the next few seasons.
I'm a bit worried about the 6, 7 and 13 shirts but I'm sure GH and BMc have got plans.
If we play like we did on Friday then there's no one to touch us.
I can't wait for Thursday.....BRING IT ON!

Well, that's the Wigan game lost them.

That's what I like, plenty of optimism!

Let's not get carried away. Wigan at theirs will be a tough encounter, if we win it that would be great but if we don't we don't. A good performance, with out significant attrition is more important than the result for mine. Keep the momentum going in terms of performance and we should hold the number 1 slot into the 8 and from there all things are possible, but there is still along way to go.

Even I'm not sure we'll win away to Wigan (as disappointing as they were vs Wire they are a different beast at home), especially with the loss of Ward and probably Hardaker.

Still Friday's win puts us in a good position to finish 1st at the split with our remaining two home games.

And whilst you don't win anything for being top at the split (apart from a better fixture list for the 8's) it'll still be an achievement if we are given some of our regular season campaigns in past years. I'm not sure how many (if any) on here had us being top when the split happens in the prediction competition....some had us as low as 7th or 8th iirc.

"He's the best coach I've had... His mix of man-management and his game plan is second to none. Since Brian Mac has been in charge, we've been in every final so far. I love playing for him. I can't praise him enough, I've so much respect for him and I hope he's here for a very long time." Kevin Sinfield 29/9/12

I've always thought this Saints team was overrated: possibly the worst champion side of the Super League era?

Wigan are the main threat. (That's despite Wane, rather than because of him). A good result for us on Thursday will be very significant psychologically - in the 8s, and beyond.

With out wishing to denigrate Saints, there is a tenable line of argument that says, without a moment of madness from Saints man of the match Mr B Flower, 2 minutes into the game, they might not have been champions. That aside, I still think the 2015 GF will feature 2 from Leeds, Saints and Wigan.

It is strange how some teams seem to have the hoodoo over others and have the measure of them despite form and performances elsewhere suggesting otherwise. Wigan definitely have the hoodoo over Leeds at the moment (look at the Wigan board where they're lamenting how crap their team is and how they're dreading the visit of the high flying Leeds team....BUT they were saying exactly the same before the Magic Weekend game. Again I believe Wigan will win this one.)

However, let me also say how surprisingly pleased I have been with this dreaded 'transitional phase'...it has exceeded my expectations. Sure McDermott continues to bewilder me at times with his choices and rotations (or lack of) from the bench and maybe the paucity of high standards in SL this season are at an all time low (just look at the number of schoolboy errors in last Friday's "top of the table" clash).....BUT even the most pessismistic of fans :D should be pleased with where we are when going into the top 8 split.
