RD3 - Leeds Rhinos v Huddersfield Giants : Mon Feb 23, 2015 1:26 pm
After a week off for the WCS, we are back in action Thursday night against the side we haven't managed to beat in the regular season for a few years now. It's a massive test for us and hopefully we can carry on where we left off. Huddersfield still without a win this season, so they'll be up for it I assume.

Sinfield looked good when he had a spell in the hooking role vs Widnes. I would like to see that happen more now. Delaney apparently to return this week will shake the team up too.

Hardaker
Briscoe Watkins Moon Hall
Sutcliffe McGuire
Singleton Sinfield Peacock
Ward Ablett
Cuthbertson

Aiton JJB Delaney/Achurch Leuluai/Yates

Squad announcement and referee announcement tomorrow.

Leeds have really struggled to break down Huddersfield in recent years. They always seem particularly fired-up against us, whatever their weekly form suggests. A game I'd like to see a good performance in if we're going to make the top 4.

Not sure it is down to unable to break them down. What we have most definitely struggled with over last three years against them though is Brough and his kicking game. We never seem to learn. If we close him down and stick to that we will aid ourselves there.

This is my last game as a based-in-Leeds Rhinos fan. I am moving to LS27 at the weekend so after Thursday it will be two buses there, rather than a cycle through town and up the Otley Road.

End of an era! Hopefully they put in a good performance, whoever is involved.

Is anyone else here LS27 based? If so, how do you find getting to and from games? Thanks.

Just get one of the 50s to Lower Briggate and then get the 18 or 56 from Town.

This week: Four keys to a Rhinos win in the WCC

Re: RD3 - Leeds Rhinos v Huddersfield Giants : Tue Feb 24, 2015 1:51 pm
The Giants have one of the closest things to an NRL style gameplan in SL IMO.

Physical across the park, reliant on grinding teams down and backing it up with a good kicking game to secure field position.

To limit the damage Brough can do, you need to be winning collisions towards the end of sets so he's always kicking off a slow play the ball and you can get some pressure on him.

With the ball, Leeds need to be moving them around. Little passes at the line, try to win the contact and then play wider off quick play the balls. Last few times we've played I think we've tried to take them on at their own game too much, and come off second best.

Key difference to our least two matches and defeats vs Hudds at Headingley and in particular the Brough kicking problem......Hardaker will be FB this time, he missed this game two years running and BJB had a 'mare last year trying to deal with Brough.

just wind brough up! sa did this for fc in the first game and it worked a treat!

although our forwards winning the battle helped too!

forget the excuse they had only one pre season game, 90% fc squad that played against them only had a game, (v york!) and 40 minutes v kr in pre season

Leeds have to hunt down Brough properly. In recent years we've blown too much juice defensively containing Huddersfield inside their own 30 metres only for Brough to whack the ball up into our in-goal because we've got no-where near him. If Leeds can't get hold of Brough let Huddersfield come to us, they may as well kick on the last from half way line.
