Every player in our squad could probably earn more money with another club. But they prefer to sacrifice a few extra quid in their back pocket to share special memories. And playing at a place like Old Trafford on a night like this makes it all worthwhile.

Andy, the coach has used the fatigue of certain senior players as a reason for the poor last 20 mins against Cas. Given his decision not to use juniors in the recent run of "easy" fixtures, the poor form shown by senior players and the results posted by the U20s up to this weekend do you not think his reluctance to give any game time to the likes of Singleton, Hood and Smith etc merits discussion?

Andy you are McDermott right?
How are we supposed to see if our up and coming youngsters can cut it if we don`t give them a game?
There`s no doubt some of the current incumbents are better than those in the wings.
But the key point here is that we all know some of our players are shot, even McD mentions it.So why not rotate the squad and freshen things up a bit?
There are easier fixtures to groom some of the youngsters and rest those that need it. I believe the last 3 games were perfect opportunities wasted.
Then again Burrow, Ablett and JJB will probably play wednesday and again Friday. Great preperation for a semi final the following week.

This week: Four keys to a Rhinos win in the WCC

Re: Updates v Broncos. : Mon Jul 02, 2012 7:42 am
G1, point me to where I said it wasn't up for discussion? Indeed, I thought that's what I was doing?

How do you know whether a young player can hack it or not? You watch what he does in training. You watch what he does in his age group. Is he head and shoulders above his contemporaries? How does he handle stepping up to open age when he's on loan or dual reg?

What you don't do is just chuck him in and see if he swims.

This current Leeds side is not good enough to rest key players and still get results. Besides, they can have a week off at the end of August ahead of the playoffs.

Yet the club seems to have chucked in Ward ( the youngest ) without the apparent need for the loan/dual-reg cop out.

Very true. And there's still time to rest senior players following the semi final, should McD deem it necessary. Right now I'd imagine he'd be keen to garner every bit of momentum he can with a crack at a final in the offing.

Which is more the reason to try out the younger players imo they may not rip up SL straight away but anyone with a realistic view of the squad can see we are in a transition and it's time to get the younger generation prepared to step up or at least test them and assess where they are in terms of still u20 ,dual reg ,not ready/ready etc.
I'd much rather see 2/3 of the potential future stars giving it go than the same tired old guard making the same errors and the last 3 games were a perfect opportunity to give some of these lads a go but unless someone is injured they don't appear to get a go (Ward aside).

Re: Updates v Broncos. : Mon Jul 02, 2012 9:50 am
If McDermott is not bringing people back from loans or dual reg, then it may be he thinks that they are not ready yet. The step up from u20s to First team is huge, and if a player is sent on a dual reg, they should be looking to dominate when playing for the likes of Featherstone or Batley. Players probably need to be more than ok to be considered for SL. McDermott has shown that he is willing to try youngsters, as he's given game time to Ward and Hood this year. One has been given plenty of game time, one has not, suggesting that one is considered up to it at this moment, and one isn't.

Plenty of players looked the business at junior level, but made no impression at open age. I'd back McDermotts opinion on this more than anyone on here
