You have to question our tactics. We had a good first 20 minutes but our completion rate was awful and we fluffed several scoring opportunities. Then in the second half we just trundled up the middle with no pace or angled runs whereas the Wigan pack made twice the yardage and looked faster and fitter. In the end we seemed glad to keep the score down giving away petty fouls for messing about at the ruck.
Apart from the McGuire try and a few runs from Burrow our half backs were dissappointing. With both Senior and Sinfield having a rare off day (was he fit?) we needed our half backs to step up with the creativity.
Returning to the tactics issue, our coach seems to think we can out muscle the other packs every week and a lack of a Plan B when this doesn't work is worrying. Also why didn't we use all our subs? If Worral was not experienced enough (as McClennan said after the game) why pick him in the first place for such an important game.
To be fair to Wigan, missing so many regulars, they were better motivated and were by far the better side in every department. We will need to improve for Warrington where Smith will have a Plan A, B & C ready.
