Greg,

At this point I could mention that the buckets were out for Fax not too long ago, but I believe that this would be a bit childish of me!

Anyway back to the thread "Fev going bust", on the Fev Forum The Blues Ox (Fax Fan) asks the following question:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Genuine question - where do Fev's money troubles stem from? I mean you get decent crowds, you own your own ground, get all money from bars etc and although you would hazard a guess that the squad is one of the more expensive in the league, Fev really should be one of the more financially viable teams in the league. You have to wonder how teams like Sheffield have managed to put together the squad they used to given the resources they had available to them in comparison. You really have to wonder how teams manage to survive, thats RL teams in general and not just Fev.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The reality is that we are still paying for the Fiasal Debacle (can't remember how to spell his name since I have been trying to erase his memory, but failing). We are just about there now from what I have been told, so I am hopeful that we will see an upturn in Fev going forwards in relation to the money situation, this is because of a lot of what Blues Ox mentions. For me this will be the case even if we finish outside the top 4, even 6th which was Frank1 (Leigh fan) pre-season prediction and is still very likely (I should learn to stop betting against him)

Therefore I don't see Fev going bust, but only being more competative next year than this, regardless of where we finish.

The truth is that RL at our level without a benefactor is virtually unsustainable given the limited funding that comes down from the sky TV deal. And it is the pursuit of funding (especially from a single individual) that gets a lot of clubs into trouble. The latest case being Sheffield who thought they had the money and their benefactor pulls out. To all my Leigh friends I have some inclining that Derek is there for the duration and even if he did pull out everything is in place to cope with it, so Leigh may be and exception to the rule.

For me I don't want to see any RL club go poop or bust, I would like to see all of them flourish, yes John even Sheffield.

I know the Fax people that know me will know that this next statement is genuine, Good luck on Sunday against Bradford i hope you can get the win.

Yours in Sport,
Dave

Dave you are a Diamond bloke with many friends at Leigh, always welcome in the George,I sincerely hope to see you again this season, hopefully in the middle 8s but definately at Fax in July. :thumb:

Interesting - because the Sky money comes in a few days before the HMRC money is due to go out. Not a coincidence.

Having said all that, it wouldn't surprise me if they don't owe anything. The Debt Management Unit is staffed by little more than poorly informed, knuckle-dragging gangsters. Had a case myself where a client was being asked for £10000+. Turned out they didn't owe a penny. HMRC error. No apology - just "we're the Government - we can do as we like".

Jeeeeeeez not long ago when we had bucket collections? How much longer will you and other clubs fans go on about this it was TEN years ago now 2006!
As for Fev you will survive this I am sure but year after year you seem to chuck money YOU DO NOT HAVE at having a team capable of competing with the top sides in our league, this is basically cheating.

F4L,

"bucket collections" - The comment was meant to be ironic (apologies if you or anyone else took it any other way).

The point of my post is that rather than trying to score points off each other as clubs we should be much more interested in the good of the whole game.

As for chucking money we do not have at the team, if this was the case why have we not broken the salary cap which is based on your income? The issue here about paying HMRC is about cash flow, during May we had one home game out of 5 meaning that revenue through the Month of May is reduced. meaning less money available to pay something, in this case the club has chosen HMRC. Is this a good choice, I am not convinced it is, but if it come to playing HMRC, rent on your stadium, the ground staff wages, players salaries or whatever I can see why we chose not to pay HMRC. In a similar vain to the threads on here over the last twelve months about missed rent payments. Tongue in cheek question - were Fax cheating when they did not pay their rent last year in full, but got into the top 4?

The answer is NO by the way (in my opinion) in the same way that Fev are NOT cheating now, it is all about payment priorities.

Should all clubs budget so as to put money away for future regular payments or the unexpected expenditure, yes of cause they should but sometimes due to unseen circumstances it is not always possible. Is 3 fails in 3 years unacceptable - probably (especially if what Griff states is true: "Sky money comes in a few days before the HMRC money is due to go out" and I have no reason to doubt the statement). However I am not close enough to the finances of the club to say either way.

Which brings me back to my point, be it Fev, Fax, Eagles or whomever that is having difficulty then we should be hoping that they turn it around for the good of the game as a whole, not try to score points off each other.

Good luck for the rest of the year (bar the 17th July for obvious reasons).

I wish Fev luck, don't want to lose any club but I would doubt HMRC issue winding up orders if you are just a month behind with your payments, very rarely do their wheels turn so fast, or the courts for that matter.

Lots of nice words, any club in problems is a shame but it's self induced by those that run it at the time. Spend what you don't have you go bust, just like Fax did....simple. You can also go bust if you use the system to avoid payments and restart as a "new" company, but in ALL cases it's down to those that run the clubs decisions.

Does anyone know the actual TRUE position?

We'll never know the "true" position, and tbh, things would probably be worse if we did!

Bucket collections for Fax are in the past, hopefully never to be repeated, and despite the slightly mismanaged rent issues, we do seem to be on a pretty even keel now. I do sense that another visit to the middle-8's is need to cement that, and maybe provide the platform for a full-time squad going forward?

Back to Fev. Winding up orders seem to come and go, and I genuinely wish them well. A part of the "backbone" of RL, and I enjoy my trips to POR. Yep, they have some numpties following them, but so do Fax (if you were in the side stand at Dewsbury in the 2nd half last weekend, you'll know where I'm coming from...).

Anyway, onwards and upwards. Strangely, after the Fev capitulation at Sheffield, the Bulls game feels even more important. I can't see Dewsbury doing much to help us this weekend, although it would be nice if they could!

Fev's problem is that they own their own ground. They have so much more to lose than most of the clubs in Division Two.
