Simon Longstaff played in the late 80's but I don't think he made more than 20 appearances for us. He was from the Wakefield area and went to Oldham but became a javelin thrower I believe.

Did a bit of Faxcarring and according to Marillion man-a well known poster in the day-Longstaff signed a record 50k junior contract in 1986.His son Ellis broke onto the scene last season scoring a hat-rick at magic for Hull on loan from Warrington and earned a Knights call-up.His career also nosedived quickly as he's now at Fev..

OK, thanks for clearing that up. It's just that I seem to remember him saying his dad was Halifax referee John Smith and I've always thought Jack is John's son, but I suppose he wouldn't be allowed to referee Fax matches if he was. But then again that didn't stop the world's most over rated ref ever, Steve Ganson, refereeing Saints matches.
